I have purchased the $100 Hortilux eye 1000w and the $35 phillips 1000w. Buy the the cheaper one, change it every 2 even 3 grows if you really want to stretch a penny. Someone said one year?? You MUST have noticed a diminished yield...
I never had one explode cause I'm careful but giving them a B2 spraying once I heard it sizzle a bit. Keep them dry and you will be fine.

I am very seriously trying to help here people...get a QUALITY light meter that registers at least 40k foot candles and it will save you loads of $$$ and improve your grows more than you imagine...most of you have pH and ppm/ec meters I am sure...well I found that in soilless no need for a pH meter...haven't used it for the plants in years...it is now dedicated to my hot tub...they cost no more than a cheap light setup and will more than pay for themselves...will help your yields and quality more than the rest of your meters combined...here have a look

Good suggestion, If you are using HID lighting a $50 Lux meter can help you decide when they should go. Dont think you need to spend hundreds on them. The expensive ones usually have a special certifications for the lighting industry. I got one from eBay.

As was said, using a light meter is best , but i replace mine every 6 - 8 months. (Hortilux 1000w HPS) Either way, you should be replacing them LONG before they will no longer strike.

Never had 1explode because ur careful and I prob go in my room kick my hoods around a little spray them with whatever shit happens I clean mine with alcohol after screwing them in and put a rag over my hand when i do that I don't fuck with my bulbs unless they need changing the bulb that blew up on me was only 2 months old and hadn't even been used that long sat around half that time and they don't always explode I have had a few just not fire up .didn't mean to scare anyone away from using 1000 watters
