How long can I veg with just a 23W CFL?

So I'm just waiting on my tax return before I can purchase a couple HID's, it might be another couple weeks before it comes in and then it would be another couple weeks after than before they arrived, planning on getting them off ebay. How long can I veg my sprouts off of just one 23W CFL per plant?

I sometimes use a 24w T5HO for around 7 days for 4 seedlings.

IMO no longer than 2 weeks.

My 24w was 18" long. Which helped as I could line up my seedlings along it.



Is your cfl a household bulb style cfl?


If so then about 10days for 1 plant.

Alright thanks man, then I'm kinda in a pinch, ya it is a household bulb, I guess I'm gonna have to get 2 or 3 on them.

Until the plant is about 8" in diameter. I have done this using a single 23 watt, 6,500 K, CFL. Here's what I did:

Using 24" square pices of "Reflectix" and Scotch Tape (a quilted kind of bubble-wrap Mylar), I made "Grow tubes" that were 24" tall and about 8" in diameter . From above I hung the CFL, inside a cheap ($6. at WalMart ) 6" round reflector. The CFL and the pot both sat inside the Grow Tube (with plenty of room to spare) allowing for easy hieght adjustment.
The whole enchalada sat on top of a box that was modified to blow air. It was just a "normal", medium sized, cardboard box that was fitted with a 4" Muffin Fan for intake and about a 7 or 7.5 hole that blew up, through the Grow Tube, for exhaust. I sat a wire cooling rake (used for baking) on top of the box, over the hole, to support the pot and Grow Tube.

I'll keep that in mind Cammo, might try to make a reflector for them, ya I know althor they already stretched on me they're as close as possible now, thanks guys.

Just FYI ive grown a Super Skunk with 4x 24w CFL's. Its now 4 weeks into flower. I used 3x 2700k & 1x 6500k for around 4-5 weeks veg, 14 days into flower i swapped to 3x 6500k & 1x 2700k :) 1 of my 6500k bulbs died last week soo im now using 2x 2700k & 2x 6500k. Shes still budding fine without any problems :) Only got 4 weeks left :)

Hmmm bro check out my thread " my latest grow. Random strain" I use cfls and could give u some idea of what ur plant could look like from using similar cfls.
