5.... 4.... 3.... 2.... 1.... Ok, Hurry! Flip them, quick!!!!

Only joking....

A good rule of thumb is that your plant will at least double in height once flipped to 12/12 IF sexually mature. If there are no preflowers yet, then the transition from when you flip to 12/12 and when she is actually flowering could take up to 3 weeks, diring which time they are streatching under the HPS.

I personally never flip to 12/12 untill the plant is showing sex

Staple the damn lights up if you have to. Anything to get them up. Then start reading up on plant manipulation. You can get those things huge if you do some topping and trellising, or screening down. Lots of time. ;)

Every strain is different. But they will usually show sex anywhere from 3-5 weeks.

Since you are trying to keep them short, i recomend that once they show sex to top them, and then begin some LST and bondage for a week or so, and then flip to 12/12. During the streatch at the beginning of 12/12, continue tieing down branches to open them up

so is tying down a good method? Does it stress the plants much? Because the floor are wood in my grow room i could screw some round hooks in the floor and use garderning wire to tie them down and bend them.over?

Well looks like your on the right track. The final decision will be how much light your "hps" is puttin out. 1k youll have a lot longer than 400. Fill the canopy to the light footprint and WhaaaMMY! Flip em. ;)

Here is a WOS Afghan Kush. She is about 12" tall and 22" wide. This is how I like my girls before I flip to 12/12

Ive got 3 x 600w but am only using 2 because the temps perfect between 74 and 76 with 64% humidity when all 3 are on its shoota to 87-89f with 27-30% humidity, think the rooms to small plus im only doing 8 plants oh and i have another 4 potted 2 sharing the same 12 litre pots, i know its not advised to do that but i only intended on growing 8 im more bothered about less plants more light so i guesse im just seeing how 2 plants grow in one pot plus theyll be good to experiment on, next grow ill be finding a different venue with more height lol

Yesss that would ideal, so would you say top leave to grow then tie down early flower? Sounds plausable
Yep. After you top her, all of the side branches start to streatch and and compete to be the dominant branch. Just strat tieing all the branches down as they streatch to open up your plant and create an even canopy. You can do this for as long as you want before flipping to 12/12, just remember they will atleast double in height when you flip, so make sure not to veg em to long

Duely noted it is my first grow so if i could get a couple of oz of each plant id be happy and i think its achievable, providing im willing to spend the time treating them. Only time will tell

As long as you read, read, read and read some more i am sure you will come close to achieving your goals. Good luck

If you are concerned about plant stretch during the initial stages of flowering, you have a few options to keep the plants manageable. There's a wealth of information on canopy management, and I highly recommend perfecting the art. I veg my plants for much longer than most, but I keep the canopy at a maximum of 32" using an unconventional scrog method. Also, supplementing your HPS with a MH will reduce the stretch.
