How important is total darkness outdoors?

So i've heard when flowering indoors any light leaks will cause your plant to go herm/make fluffy bus.. How does this work out outdoors?

I have a plant flowering in my backyard which is surprisingly bright all night long (streetlights, moon, neighbors, blah blah) and seems to be doing pretty well.
Is outdoors different or do you try to shelter your plants from light at night?

...one strange thing is in early flowering a flood light was on left 8 feet away from the plant and it seemed to have the biggest growth ever that night

thats all good....yea ambient light is alright , even a lightning storm is all good....i had a few plants on my deck with a sensor security light that critters would trip at night, never had a hermie and they were pretty potent.

what you growin?

I saw a thread a while ago where half of a guys plant didnt flower because of a neighbors flood light. its gotta be close but it can mess up your light cycle...i just thought it was crazy that some of the plant flowered and some didnt.
