How I bullt my Grow Box-Step by step

i have a 400 watt hps system in the mail from them. 165 bucks AFTER shipping. Cant find a better deal anywhere. I also haven't heard/read any bad reviews about there products. cant say for sure, cause i have no personal experience since i havent gotten my package, but they seem like a reputable company. They email you with an expected shipping date, reciepts, ect.
Yeah im thinking about going through with that one. Im gonna use it in a 6x4x4 space. Did you get one of the agrostars? What bulbs you gonna run in it?
p.s. where you at snappy, im trying to see that box!:eyesmoke:

Oh nice, so your growing hydro? With that 400w hps/mh ballast, i can run any 400w hps and any 400w mh conversion bulb right?

no, soil. it is just advertised as a hydroponic lamp. it is the same as any lamp.

the ballast i am getting is strictly a hps ballast. i believe you can get conversion bulbs, this would be a mh that works for a hps ballast, and vice versus. you can also get a conversion ballast, so you can run either bulb. I believe that the conversion ballast is the best way to go, imo. the conversion bulbs are pricy. and with the ballast, you can choose whatever bulb you want

hey snappy,

how many times are you planning on your air being circulated per minute in your new box? i am building a similar one, just a little bigger and am looking at inline fans. hoping that 2 circulations will be enough, what do you think?

Ok Ya'll sorry for the suspense it's been Hectic here in LA with the 2009 THC Expo, Erotica LA and of Course the Laker parade. Been kiinda mingeling with the Masses. anywho... first I'll answer your quieries and then I shall proceed.

So the inlet is on the bottom and the exhaust is on the top. Do you have anything covering the inlet to eliminate dust and what not. Even though this is the construction phase, it looks like the inlet has no covering or anything. Is this right?

Yes there is a covering not your conventional one but you'll see.

Dude you and I will find out together I guess since I am learning as I go, as for the math Questions I would rather admit that I dont know and ask if what I am doing will work...:dunce: and there were so many replies motivating me to go ahead and take the intake fan OFF alltogether, that's what I did last night. now I just have the 4" exaust. hope it works.

maybe the mathematically inclined out there can help us figure it out.

my box is 2x2x4 the exaust fan is 4" and the hole where the intake fan was is 6". can someone help??

you can multi quote instead of posting a whole bunch of times in a row answering questions. Hit multi on each post that you want to quote and on the last one hit quote and there you go. You will have a post with a bunch of quoted posts. It makes it a lot easier to answer questions

Ok where did we leave of?? Oh yeah!

Once the fans were ok I placed the door with 3 hinges and Placed a Doorknob <-- why not!!

after this I am so anal that I wanted to see how much light was coming in the box with the door closed so that I could cover the leaks and since I am small enough that I fit inside the box and see how much light comes in that's what I did and sure enough there was an awful amount of light so I decided to make a "Gasket" with Newspaper and Duct tape if you feel this will work for you - go easy on the paper - you want a soft cushion, I had to take some of of this picture door wouldn't close.

once the door was done, I wanted to seal of all of the edges to block the light.

ALL THE EDGES.:bigjoint:

A Fresh Coat of Paint Never Hurt and it made the box look :leaf:Bitchin!:leaf:

If you are going to paint make sure that the INSIDE gets at least 2 coats of Flat White Paint Flat white paint has the ability to reflect between 75-85% of the light, and does not create hotspots.

To keep light/dust out I used the boxes the fans came in, I Saw this on YOUTUBE tell me if you guys think it will work

INTAKE.

OUT

That seems to be it. this is what My Box Looks Like... just picture it without the Intake fan (for Negative PreSSure).

The Ballast is 400W Conversion, the bulb that is on is 400W HPS, I also have a 400W MH for next crop's Veg stage .

You Like???:clap::clap: Kicks Ass HUH???:wink:8-)

As for the Crop...

This is the lady that I had waiting for her new Home (Purple Kush Clone I've had her5 weeks Now) she's inside a Phototron with 6 long tubes and the 2 on top hanging.

But like I said I went to the THC Expo and a Very experienced Grower (2009 Valedictorian at Oaksterdam University LA Branch) advised me that 400W HPS for 1(ONE) plant was a LOT OF POWER, He thought that the light bill - compared to the crop produced by a single plant was not worth the expense.

He said I should just bloom this one on CFLs and when I have 2 or more then I should take advantage of the Ballast.

So I took the light out of the box and placed the phototron inside the box and Finally Turned Off the lights (12/12).

so there you go, I'll post a picture of what the phototron looks like inside the box and post it with the "Items List" tonight -PROMISE!!:bigjoint:

Maybe I can keep this Thread going trough the CFL Bloom/Harvest (I'm Planing to use the box as a Curing station as well) all the way to Finally Using My Ballast. Looks Like a Long time away from now but I'm sure it will fly by..

Questions, Thoughts, Comments???

Those light traps don't look like they will do anything to keep the light out. I would revise that because they seem like they will be letting in a lot of light during the dark period. You can also get some weather stripping to put around where the door meets the box to create a nice tight seal when it is shut.

Awesome dude. Love the intake/exhaust dust/light blocker. I feel the need to build one of these now, lol. +rep

^^maybe if you put it in a corner you could block most of the light on the sides with fans^^And put the intake so the vent is under the fan, not on the side

Please Do and let us know how it goes and how you improved it!

You're a Genious:clap: That's what I did... there's still a bit of light for about 2 hours that tried to creep in so I placed it in a Corner and made the whole face Down, after the sun goes down there is NONE coming in - I've been inside I KNOW!!! LOL:lol:, I also added some more paper to the Exaust since that was letting a bit too much for my taste.

First of all :leaf::leaf:Thanks TOM:leaf::leaf: for the Multi Quote advice as you can see it helped a lot!!

Another great sugestion. I actually used Velcro with the cushion of the paper/tape/velcro perfect seal:hump: -- final pictures tonight --Still at workkiss-assLOL!!!

Thank you again, either way will be used one day.

Snappy, one ques. is what about mylar instead of white paint? Or are both just as good? Im thinking about making an identical box to yours, although i think mine will be 3x3x6 or 3.5x3.5x6. I would like to be able to grow 4-6 plants in it through the whole growing process. I have chosen a 400w conversion ballast from htg http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=45667. Which has a good seal to help protect from dust, low heat, and going off that i might just create an intake hole and only use a fan for exhaust. Im still new at this and it takes a little bit for everything to make sense, but i think im starting to figure things out. :bigjoint:
