how hard is it to get a decent fan.

I bought this 2 months ago. Been running perfectly. Time will tell tho.

It doesn't require a Smart controller as I don't have one.

Spider Farmer Grow Tent Clip Fan 6” with 7-Speeds, EC-Motor, IP-44 Protection, Auto Oscillating Clip on Fan, Powerful Airflow but Low Noise, Indoor Greenhouse Hydroponics Circulation Cooling Fans https://a.co/d/dtRha9C

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm cheap.
Not for $46 bucks!
I just picked up a pair of oscillating 8" 3 speed fans for $30 with a 3 yr warranty and a $6 rebate if I send it in...
I'm going to use them on a pole mount that I 3D printed although they would hang upsidedown just fine like I've been doing with my 12" fans that are now getting tired.
If they last two runs I'll be surprised - if they have a warranty better than toilet paper I'll get more. I almost got the 9" steel construction one but it doesn't oscillate & only has a year warranty.

2 AC Infinity Axial muffin fans with controller is about $35-40 on Amazon. They are 120volt metal frame fans like you would see in a server rack. I just hang them with wire or slip the bracket over the support bar. Plug it into whatever generic timer or Inkbird controller you want.

In a jam fans can sometimes be coaxed back into life.

A motor seizure is usually fixable with some wd40 and oil and they're good for another few months.
(Wd40 isn't oil)

The cable twisting back and fourth over a small area is always going to wear out, when/if it does it's easily fixed with a soldering iron and heat shrink.

The last fan I bought was December 2021
I'm still using it without any mending but I have changed the blade in favour of 3 blades over a 5 which was pretty noisy.

That's 1 more year and counting from that fan with the junk weight removed.

Edit...I wasn't clear I'd purchased it in 2021...

With junk weight removed and a bit maintenance you can get years from them.
