Not sure what general consesnsus is but i see 12-24 inches used a lot. is that from the actual diodes to TOP of plant or to the bud sites (considering they will keep growing biggeR). do growers actually move the qb farther up as buds or plants grow?

I just asked a very similar question. @Stephenj37826 suggested starting at 24". I have seen many people say 18"-24". I have the 260 watt qb288 kit. Are you talking the HLG Quantum Boards?

yes, i wanted to do hlg550 boards or at least DIY piece by piece because that 1000$ cost is prohibitive :P

keegan did you figure out if the distance means from LED to top of plant or LED to bud site? could make a difference thats important, and would change throughout flowering!

I am not sure to be honest. I am on my first grow and they are still seedlings LOL. I will be following to see if someone more knowledgeable will know. There isn't a ton of info out there about these Quantum Boards so I still have a lot to learn.

kdt15 i think you don't get access to a like button immediately, you have to graduate to full member by... earning a few likes first? Making several posts? It wont be long

This is good info to know. I just got a 320 watt hlg 324 xl about a month ago and didn't know how far to put it. I had it too close and plants were suffering. Thanks to this thread I put it about 18 inches away and already after a day they are looking happier. I'm not a noob, except to QB's.

You think at seedling stage I can put it at 18 inches, right now I'm at 24 inches

Well, like I said, I'm new to QB's but I started mine at about 18 inches at almost the lowest power. But when they got bigger I increased the power to close to full and lowered the light to about 10 inches and that's when they started getting the turned down leaves and kinda a greasy look, so that was too close.

I don't want to give you advice on this because of my newness to QBs. So I only gave you my circumstance. Just watch 'em and err on the side of less intensity until you either know the light better, or somebody with more experience than me comes along, lol.

We all learn together!!
Best of luck!!

The top of the plant should be a bud... So not sure what the question is

That greasy turned down look is probably nitrogen toxicity

The distance depends on how many quantum boards and what power they are run at my QB that are running at 75w can get down to like 8" without a problem during flower. QB running at 150-160w need to be more like 16" away at least

That makes sense, since I'm feeding them like the ones under my 1k hps. Also they are autos which I've never grown before, only photos in my past.

Mine is a total experiment that I'm doing in my veg tent to see how they work. In coco, which I have grown in for 10 years, battling cal and mag deficiencies by doubling up on cal mag which has N in it. Then top dressed with dolomite lime and got that (mostly) under control and just backed off the cal mag this week, so it all makes sense to me now, lol. Thanks man!!

Man it's a learning experience. Think I'll switch to organic soil when I swap my 1k hps se for 2 of the 320 watt 324 xl's in the flower room. Order is already in for the second light.
