how effective are low watt hid lamp?

So heres the deal i work in construction and took a trade on a job for a few 70 watt hps fixtures i figure it cant possibly hurt because all i have in there for lights is a 150 watt sun system hps and two 300 watt cfl bulbs and a few smaller one scattered throughout now i have added the 70 watt fixtures i am hopeing that im not just wasteing my money on power and takeing up valuable space not to mention the money i lost takeing the trade and i figured that someone here on riu would have used something like that and might be able to give me some advice on whats up

Do what i did and ditch all your lights and upgrade to something bigger..like a 400w..more lumens and less juice being sucked up by all the small lights with high amp rates..less heat with an external ballast..the list goes on

Im so down but i am kind of on a really tight budgit like my wife wod kill me for spending money kind of tight budgit but ive. Got my eye on that 130 600 watt set up

Compare 400w cfl to 400w hid.. Hid will win most of the time. So I'm not sure what your asking but if your comparing them to cfl they are better. If you get good quality led, those are just as good but very expensive.

No..simple answer..cuz the 150hps u got going is sucking power like a mad man..For a personal grow its alright all u would have to do is train like her like crazy to make it worth your time..

They are not sufficiently effective and you would be better off scrapping all those mini-lights and getting at least a 400w HPS. Not sure why people think that quantity matters more than quality, but that idea is wrong. One powerful light will outproduce a bunch of dinky lights every time.
