How effective are carbon filters?

I'm either going to put a 4x3 grow tent in my bedroom closet with some of my clothes or put it right out by my dining room table. Its a 1 bedroom place so I can put it wherever I want but my issue is the smell. I plan on growing 3-5 plants in the 4x3 tent with a 6" ~400 cfm fan and a 6" ~400 cfm carbon filter. If I were to put it in my closet I would put the exhaust towards the door and away from my clothes. With that set up would my clothes smell a lot like marijuana, as in would it be noticeable to my parents that all my clothes smell like weed if I were to visit them? If my clothes would be noticeable to my parents then my other option is my dining room, how bad would it make my apartment smell if I were to put the same set up in my dining room? I've been told that even when I air the place out it still smells a little like weed so its not all that bad if the tent smells a little, but would it be uncomfortably smelly for my family if they were to come and visit (they all know I smoke and whatnot so a little smell isn't too bad).

Also, if I were to have a maintenance guy that works for the apartment complex come in and fix something in my apartment, would I be able to pass the grow tent off as an external closet if I sprayed some ozium and aired my apartment out? Any helps is appreciated.

Well you've gotta do what's right for you. But I couldn't keep a straight face passing a grow tent as spare closet.

Carbon filters work if used properly. I had the gas man in my house yesterday. And he's not the first guy to come in. Keeping the smell down is easy. What's hard is breaking down a room to ground zero and having to put it right back together again.

32 hours of prep. Grow tent and dry tent took the flower room flowers. Grow tent contents also in flower but later less smell moved to my bedroom with carbon filter.

8 hours waiting for tech to arrive. Dam I hate it when they're late! 20 minutes to make sure my gas products heater stove ect were OK. They had to cut my gas off for maintenance. But they don't turn your service back on UNLESS they can check for leaks. I didn't have leaks before. They didn't do a thing to anything involving my line. All street work. I could have done it myself. But that's not allowed.

Then 10 hours of getting everything back to where it started. Dam it sucks! But it's the cost of doing business.

Next up annual heating and a/c service. But it's much easier when I can schedule it. I allow a 2 week period annually for it. So it's timed out for the end of a cycle and their replacement plants are 2 weeks from being ready. Much much easier.

Yeah the spare closet idea would be a last minute excuse. I plan on getting a few things fixed before I actually fill the pots with mix so I can hide it all in my room closet. But do you think a properly used carbon filter could scrub the air enough for what I want it to do?

I guess I wasn't clear. YES. But they don't work if they're not on. So if there's a cord going to your area that sinks your theory it's just an area without a filter.

I guess the best thing I could tell you is I've lived in a one bedroom apartment. Having done this I wouldn't do it in that situation. They can come in at anytime when you're not home. They just need a reason. If something happens around you mechanically with another apartment. It could be a reason to enter. So look into that before you waste time on anything else.

Normally my family says something if they can smell what I'm growing. Haven't heard a peep since installing the new scrubber.

I've read the lease over pretty well and it only specifies "illegal drugs" as banned from within the apartment without listing those drugs and since California passed legal marijuana it is under the "legal drugs" term like cigarettes or alcohol, you just can't buy it without a medical card yet. At least that's my knowledge of it. The location isn't near any schools or churches or federal land or anything either so I would be up to code that way. I'm thinking about just sticking it in my bedroom closet and if I think it smells too much for my clothes to be in there too I can buy some plastic drawers for them and put them in my room somewhere. I will have plenty of room to work with in my closet and its the farthest room from my front door so smell won't be an issue and they won't need to fix anything in my closet either.

I forgot about the clothes part. I wouldn't have them in the same area. Even with a filter. And especially in flower.

Zero smell in a 1 bedroom apartment is a tall order, especially if you plan on venting the exhaust to inside the apartment. With the right strain and setup it could be possible. Opening the tent though is gonna release some dank all over your wardrobe though. Unless you build some kind of faux armoire and stash the tent inside, its gonna be kind of hard to disguise out in the open.

No smell here until you enter the room, However i bought a monster 24inch carbon filter for a small room. Bigger the better imo, the bigger it is the longer it last and it provides less resistance on the fan pulling air which cuts down noise and your electric bill. Had this filter for five years and still working like the day i bought it. I use a fan speed controller to slow things down.

good advice. Same deal over here. Ive got a small grow but use a 550cfm fan and a massive phresh filter. There is not the slightest hint of chiba in the exhaust. It's been running 24/7 for quite a while.
I'm using a fan speed controller as well.
