How do you tell between overwatering and nitrogen def?

Plant has had long period of watering due to rain, is yellowing bottom older leaves and falling off, and rising up the plant. Plants are not droopy from overwatering, but is this a symptom of over watering? highly doubt it is magnesium because have used epsom salts, highly doubt it is nitrogen because plant was flushed 3 weeks ago due to way too much nitrogen, and has been fed quite well with fish emulsion ferts since.

My plant went through the same thing, and stopped when I gave it nutes for a few days, so it probably is some form of deficiency. I think i read somewhere that the yellowing is due to nitrogen deficiency.

Check the pH first, if its in an effective range its not a nute def. That should narrow it down.
