How do you handle runoff from watering?

Just curious how other people catch and deal with runoff when watering. Do you take your plants out of room to water? Do you let them drip for a little while before retiring them to the garden? Do you just water them in place and not worry about a little standing water sitting in the saucer?

Just curious how other folks do this... Right now my plants sit in a 3x3 flood tray. I'm working of leveling it out just right so I can just drill a hole in the tray and put a cup under it when I water. Then there shouldn't be any standing water when I'm done.

the standing water in the saucer means you dont have to water as often, so why waste the nutes?

Standing water is fine, it will be drunk or will evaporate under the lights. Too much standing water however ad you risk drowing the roots and causing root rot. I just water and the moment i see runoff stop, and it'll be gone within a few hours.

I've been doing it wrong this whole time.
I water a lot, until I see good runoff.
and I take my plants into the bathtub then water, then put them back into their drip pan and empty out the drip pan when it gets full.
I don't want to get fungus gnats or have to deal with spills or open water.
But I guess I'll water less from now on :p

There is no real right way, if your method works then that's the end of the conversation. There are many ways to grow cannabis none more right than the next.

Thread bump.....what if your plants are netted into the grow space? I had some issues with salt build up and would like to be able to get all the standing water out so i could be able to flush salts from the root zone. Without buying one of those tray tables does anyone have an idea how this would be possible. What im thinking is useing milk crates to get them up and drilling drain holes in the saucers with a catch can under the hole......???? Any other bright ideas?

I have to many hempys to carry back and forth so have them raised on a flood tray with a hole driller for a drain hose-I just let it drain into a tupperware and use the run off for my outdoor veggies.

that should work. im doing a similar thing atm but with 5 gal buckets as the saucer. holes in the lid and a drain line off the bottom. the reason i used buckets is that i want to try to hang smart pots in them next grow. maybe sandbags idk :o

I just let the water run into the tent. Then my HID evaporate it within 4 hours. And ventilation is good so humidity not really going up
