Getting ready to plow in some soil ammendments to let it cook for the late fall and early spring. Should be an interesting 09 with all the different strains.

hodge i ask this question to a man of experience, and based off the size of your previous plants, do you think hindu kush plants could reach that size in proper growing conditions?

I'm givin to believe so, You want me to try? Just kidding ya, I'm having a hard time deciding what to plant this year (10) strains to choose from.. Back in the 80s I grew a type of kush that produced around 2 lbs per plant and this was when I was trying to hide them from C.A.M.P. up in southern Humboldt. Hope this helps?

All of my white queen seeds have sprouted and are now outdoors in the greenhouse. Super nova, durban poison, purple power and hawaiian skunk are also outdoors and seem to be happy. The mango that I purchased from a near by co-op are lagging behind not to mention only 5 of 14 sprouted, hope these are has tasty as the strain my cousin had 5 years ago? I did get the crooked prairie seeds (california orange) and will start some tonight, the grandad purple x blue berry are also looking good. So there you have it, my selections for 2009. (plus 100 bag seed) for fun and friends..lol "oops" forgot to add that there's also Twilight, Charas included in this years grow.. :bigjoint:

You mention taking out half of your beds and adding amendments. I have read this entire thread, extremely impressive to say the least.

I am contemplating my first outside grow. I like your raised beds, know what brand of nutes you use but don't know how much of each. What amendments do you add to your beds? Are the beds initially soil, commercial planting mix or ??? What nutes do you add at what point? Different for vegging and flowering? You mention not adding nutrients for the last 3 or 4 weeks. Any problem with salt build ups in the soil?

For having grown indoors only, I feel like I've never grown before when it comes to an outdoor grow. What was your average yield per plant? I know this is strain dependent, b ut I don't know what to expect.

TIA

The half I take out, I replace with 4 bags super soil (2cubic feet), 2 bags (1 cubic foot chicken manure,1 large coffee can of blood meal, vermiculite and till it all in. Has to the salt build up, I can go 2 to 3 seasons before I replace all the soil. Then I do as I wrote above and fill the boxes with mulch that I purchase from our local landfill and add what I listed about two months before I plant. This helps to eliminate the chance of nitrogen burn on the young plants. Hopes this helps you?:weed:

sounds like a good prep. i was thinking about starting my babes off in a few buckets that i will make stealthy and then add to holes I am planning to fill with potting soil and some vermiculite to airate it a bit. is there anything else i can add to the holes to prep for the babes. and nice choice on the hawaiian strain ive heard good things. im planting some northern lights, i know theyre an indoor strain but id like to see what happens when sunlight takes its way with them.

Are you starting them inside first or starting outside all the way? I have all my soil amendments and Im just waiting for my friend to bring over the rototiller to mix it all in and then I will make the raised beds. I think Im going to start them soon and move them outdoors in may/june depending on nighttime temps, maybe sooner. I will send you a link when I get started. I already got my new camara for B-day but I need to get use to it.

Thank you for the info Hodgegrown. Let me ask this. The beds look like 2x12's, two high. that's 4' x 8' x 2' (approximately). if they are filled to 18" that's still 48 cu. ft. of soil/amendments. What do you fill them with initially? Do you turn the soil beneath and add amendments to that also? What level (inches) do you fill the raised beds to? Sorry for being so specific but I so want to replicate your grow. TIA
