How do these look? (Noob needs some Prof advice)

What it is!

I have 5 13 day old seedlings that I need some input on. They're in red solo cups, FF Happy frog soil, water pH is 7 run off 6.5, no nutes ever added. RH 65%. Temp varies 75-85 degrees. I've got 338 watts of CFL (total of 6 CFL's) with 10,800 lumens. I started to have a few drooping so I suspected overwatering, thus I haven't watered for 3 days now. I feel the soil about two knuckles down and feels dry, but it seems instead of perking up they've gotten more droopy. I've posted two with the most significant drooping, sorry one is a bit out of focus.

Should I let them dry out even longer? Or repot to larger pots at this point? Other than the drooping they've been growing steadily and don't show and yellowing.

its what fox farm does to plants u no how many times i see this with fox farm there burning for 1 best bet if u want to save them is ditch the foxfarm all together and repot in some good soil like terra pro or bvb or niks mix

What did you cut the soil with and at what ratio? FF is great stuff but little strong for brand new plants if its not mixed down with like a 4 to 1 Perlite to FF soil. make sure the cup have drainage holes put in the bottom then just water til runs off and check every other day for moisture.

Let it dry out almost completely before you water. Always lift your cup or container to make sure it feels light/dry.. if it has some weight to it you know there is still moisture in the soil. A tiny plant like that needs a lot of oxygen cause it doesnt take up water very quickly.

After a couple watering amd letting dry out, you shoukd see some new growth. Once it goes 3-4 days with continuous growth transplant and repeat.


Fox farms will work fine. Not the best, not the worst, but its good for the price.

Thanks all, that's what I was thinking, overwatered. I didn't cut it with anything unfortunately, it was my understanding that people cut FFOF due to it being real hot, but now from what you guys are saying I should have cut with some perlite. I'll make sure I do that next time around.

As far as the letting them dry out, should I expect the leaves to return to normal before I water again? Despite the curled down leaves I am still seeing new green growth every day.

Expect to see the results in new growth. Older growth will remain the same

Like most people have mentioned it looks overwatered, let it dry out more. Smaller the pot the less water it will need. Also make sure it does have good drainage!! I would also probably start to think about transplanting into bigger pots, as your plant could be root bound in the cup.Good luck growing! :peace:

I've over watered a few sprouts and seedlings in solo cups starting out. I threw some dry soil into an extra solo cup and used it to compare weight against the seedling cup. Helped a lot. When the seedling cup felt about the same weight as the dry soil cup I knew to water.

Just an update, I've pretty much followed everyone's advice. I let them all dry out quite a bit, they were looking pretty sorry. Watered them just a skosh then waited another two days. I've just transplanted into 1 gal containers except this time I did 40% perlite to my FFHF (before was no perlite). Already seeing some nice green new growth! The old leaves that were at the start of overwatering looking bad but as HydroMD said, I'm looking at the new growth.
It's funny, I would have thought there's no way my little guys could be root bound, figured they'd get a lot taller first. But for sure when I transplanted, majority of them were or really close to. Thanks for the help everyone!
