I want to intigrate a pc fan in to my grow room. How would I power it? I have heard yo can use an adapter, does anyone have a good breakdown of how to do that? Preferrably in easy to understand terms
you need to find old cell phone chargers, or anything around your house that looks like pic #1.
they'll say some information about the type of adapter it is. it's either on a sticker or engraved on there somewhere. it's FCC required so it's on there.
on input it'll say 110v or 120v, that's cuz it's plugged into the wall....
output should read 12VDC 500ma. or something like that....
that's the charger you want. a 12vdc.
just cut off the part that plugs into a cell phone or electronic (not the thing that plugs into the wall!!) and strip off 1 inch.
on the fan you cut off the plug, strip the wires 1 inch and wire together black with black and red with red, if there's a yellow one don't plug it anywhere. tape everything up. and plug into the wall.... the fan should turn on.....
No they are designed to run and run and run when they finally die they just lock up and wont turn anymore. besides if you use a cellphone charge there 'should' be some protection built in from overload and over heating. milage may vary with vary cheap ebay chargers
You can put a few fans on 1 12v line too. I've built custom computers before and there's no problem in doing it. Why not throw a sound-activated cathode on there at the same time and give your plants a party.
Make sure you use heat-shrink tubing to cover the connection. Electrical tape will just cause problems.
