How do I wire and connect an in-line duct fan?

Update for future reference, to anyone who might need it in the future:

The key to make sure the wiring is safe is the amperage. The fan will state what amp it requires, either on the box or in the instructions. In my case the 6" duct fan from home depot needed a 15 amp cord. I wandered over to the extension cords, and they had pre-cut extension cords designed for power tools and this purpose. They were exactly 15 amps. There were plenty of extension cords that did not have the third, grounding prong, and plenty of cords that were not 15 amps. As long as you make sure to get the correct cord it couldn't have been easier, the wires were color coded exactly as the fan.

My thanks to the original poster. Using a 4" fan for intake and the 6" fan for outtake I am able to use a 400 watt halide in a space less than 30 cubic feet without heat issues!

Ductstats are the bomb.... get a heavy extension cord.... cut off the female end... use wires to connect to 3 wires on in line fan.... match the colours up... ie green to green... tape the connections or use marettes.... then secure this to the fan housing with some duct tape.... plug into Ductstat.... frig arond until you get the temps you want... bob's your uncle

Mogie, thank you for your wonderful instructions! Just got my fan wired up, works perfect. Also thank you to 7th1der for the suggestion of the computer power cable - saved me a trip to the store!

ok i did this yesterday so i know exactly what to do, take the fan with the 3 wires and buy a power cord with the 3 matching color cord should be white green and black, also buy a metal box with the metal punchs (home depot) its as big as an electrical outlet and has a cap, mount that to the fan, punch the hole in the little metal box and run ur wires through there before u mount it sorry, connect the wires to the matching colored wires on the power cord, cap them with electrical caps, tape them with electrical tape put the lid on the wire housing (metal box) plug ur fan end
