How deep to plant stem in hydroton?

I use a aero cloner so I don't have a cube or anything.. Just the stem and roots dangling down.. How deep should I put the stem? If I put it too deep could it start rotting and cause pythium?

Good question. You wanna have the stem about an inch from the bottom of the netpot. Use a snippet and snip out one rung of plastic from the bottom and fish the roots all through it. Spin the clone in your hand while holding the roots with the other and twist them up gently. Once you've got it through, carefully fill with hydroton. Helps to have another netpot full already to use right by you.
But when transfering to DWC you GOTTA have long roots down in the water.

i dont use an aero cloner.i use roockwool...but ive always did this when ive seen the tap root come from the bottom of the cube say its an inch or inch and a half long i put it strait in my 6inch net pot and into a plain PH'd airated water res 5.5-6.0 anywhere there is fine.

i add a "DASH" just a lilttle of cal-mag at this stage keep the ec around 0.1-0.2 or 100-200 ppm/500 tds..my calcium has N in it so it gives the bubs a lil boost with out burn if u keep the ec/ppm low!!!

i cover the top of the cube with hydroton balls keep the balls around the cube/roots moist((,you could even use a simple drip system to keep your ladys nice and moist until the roots have emerged from the bottom of the pot)

but at 5.5PH more elements are avalible for it at early stage.. this ph changes as the plants grows i run 6.0-6.2 in flower 5,5 in veg and let the ph swing a bit to get all the goodies on different ph levels;hence why calcium is more avalible at 6,2 and iron at 5.2,,,,let it go from low to high in veg i say....in flower control it at 6.0-6.2 max

i start 1/4 nutes when the 1st true leaves(3 set) show at seedling/veg stage as the cotyledon leaves have everything the plant needs until that point..

i have the bubblier going flat out spitting water up under the net in the res wetting the balls under the roots and those babys will reach for those 1/4 strength nutes in no time.i just think the sooner u get those roots in it's home the better,,
The less you touch the roots the better aswell...

KEEP ALL DIRECT LIGHT/HEAT SOURCE AWAY FROM THE TOP OF BUCKET UNTIL YOUR PLANT COVERS/SHADES THE LID.. IT HEATS UP THE VOID SPACE BETWEEN THE WATER LINE AND TOP OF LID,,IT WARMS UP AND CREATES A WARM HUMID MOIST PLACE FOR THE DREADED BROWN SLIME TO CULTIVATE THEN SPREADS THIS HAPPENS EVEN IF U KEEP YOUR WATER TEMP UNDER 20C THE HEAT FROM ABOVE WAS MY PROBLEM I USE ROOF INSULATION FOR THE TOPS AND FOIL AROUND MY BUCKETS IN ICED WATER RES ... IVE NEVER LOOKED BACK ,,GOODLUCK

That last bit there is very interesting.. I do have a sheet of reflective insulation on top of my buckets though.. Its my second run now and I got root rot just after planting again.. Been able to clear it up with H202 both times.. Water temp is 18-20c (64.4 - 68f)
