How deep do most people start 4x4 beds?

So from the information I gathered, it sounds like most start around 12 inches deep… as with 16 in deep people found some issues I guess. I forget exactly what, but one being they found the bottom to just be like hard or whatever.

Regardless, how deep do you make yours? I was think about 13-14 inches deep, using coots mix. Mixing it up within a few hours hopefully!

Take a post hole digger go 24" deep, plug it with your mix, you'll be glad when you do.

I'd think the deeper the better.
I guess that might be true outdoors, but in an indoor tent where vertical height is limited I think surface area beats depth when you have the choice. I see too many 5 gallon tall buckets with most of the tent floor unused in many setups. The mylar on their tent floor is not going to grow shit, so best to utilize it as much as possible IMO.

If you do utilize your surface area to maximum extent, then certainly 12 to 16 inches of depth is fine to fill it with colas without worry about the amount of medium in there. Many mediums if not very well drained will tend to become anaerobic from my experience when you go deeper than 16" or so, and that's with top watering. That may not be an issue because the cannabis roots will stick to the well oxygenated upper areas anyway, but anything underneath is just a waste of medium and a waste of precious vertical space. Outdoors the sky's the limit and so it the depth of ground in very nice well-drained fertile soil.
