i have heard about using tires and plastic. the tires insulate and retain heat when the sun is out. while the plastic helps to keep the cold out and the heat in. tire around the plant and plastic over that. hope that helps a little. i know there are more ways to go about it. but well need to hear from someone with more experience.

My friend has a situation similar to this... He planted some babies outdoors in like March... He had one plant left that hadn't budded yet last week, and after some good rain the past day or two, all of a sudden it's got lots of buds showing up w/ white hairs.. It's getting cold here though, so he doesn't know what to do...

It looks really nice, it's about 4 feet tall and it looks like the main cola could end up being about 8 inches tall..

He's not really sure what to do though, b/c it looks like it has about 3-4 weeks to go and it probably can't make it that long outside... I'd slap that bad girl (lol) under my 250watt hps... but it's hush hush... so..... lol....

as long as it stays above 30 you should be okay and no heavy frosts of course. burlap bags or wrap like they use on rose bushes and tomatoes i believe.

This question is tough to answer because there is so many variables. My plants have survived several nights at 19F, 21F, 22F and doing good. The temps. will vary all night but the one temp reported about is the coldest low not the average low. I wouldn't worry to much during light frosts but worry about the hard frosts.

Methods to protect your MJ is the same as vegetable gardens. Read some of those posts if your still clueless.

It was -1C at 6am in the greenhouse this morning so colder outside. Apart from turning even more purple all the plants in the greenhouse and the 1 outside are all fine today.

Buster your plants survived several nights at 19F, 21F, 22F ?!?!? Really? That's well below freezing. Understand these are lows, but from what I have read I was thinking maybe dipping to slightly under freezing for a few hours would be the max they could safely tolerate. I know they are hardy plants, but this surprises me. Someone posted that below freezing does damage to the cell walls :?: Next week we are looking at lows in the lower thirties - at least I am less nervous now!

Yo I back Buster with evidence from our three thermometers in our garden that have regularly dropped into the high twenties for a couple hours till the sun hits 'em. They can survive this IF the sun and daytime temp are high enough.
