How can some people live with themselves?

I never thought of asking the vet,but I doubt if they'll do that.Won't hurt to ask, though, I guess.
Hi if its a very cute cat, ask your vet if they can't keep it in a cage in the reception area for a while, worst case i had to supply kitten food to them once for two weeks.
They tend to get snapped up realy fast.

Of course I also have a few friends who have taken stray cats from me before. We only kept one stray, she was like a 5 week old baby sitting in the road all alone and covered in shit, and her arse was swolen like lips, becasue some doos tried to feed her catfood, but I also have 6 cats.

ive had to get a cat rescue license cuzz my kids brought home every sick kitty they saw, we would get them healthy again but very few were adopted from us. ive spent a small fortune on spay and nutering over the years, the kids are all grown up now so the cat population was dwindling, till lately. now we are getting cats abandoned all over town

They have programs to help with neutering costs, I think.

I feel for you, Stoney.
we, my wife and I, we are animal lovers. We live way out in the country, in a far rural farming area, away from the town, and people drive all the way to our house to dump their animals. We can often get them adopted out, expeically cute puppies, but CATS???? it is nto soe asy to find a home for a stray cat that is not neutered ro fixed. We do have a freind who is a vet, that will neuter them very cheap, he says his costs is $20. We 've had 3 cats fixed and adopted this year....all 3 female.

It is just a sad cruel world that heartlessly dumps poor defensless animals.

My persian was dumped when she was two weeks from having kittens. She wandered onto my porch, and I saw she was knocked up and I had to take her in;winter was coming. She has turned out to be an awesome cat.I spayed her after her second litter, because after her first, I didn't think she'd go back into heat so soon, and she got herself knocked up again before they were even fully weaned! She was an awesome mother, always playing with her babies. When she had the first litter, she didn't know me well and so didn't trust me enough to be around when she gave birth. But by the time the second litter was ready, she woke me up yowling at my bedroom door and would not let me be until I went with her to the box I prepared for her. As soon as I sat down and held her paw and started rubbing her belly, she immediately began to push. She must have been holding them for me,lol. She let my daughters watch the birth, too, and let me wipe the kittens down. Those kittens were the easiest kittens to find homes for because they were seriously the cutest kittens I've ever seen. They were all gray or gray and white, like little variations on the mom,and were fluffy. Unfortunately, I've run out of people I trust who want a cat.

SHit, some people dump their kids.
Not a day goes by here that I don' read about some baby found in a garbage bin or shopping mall.

My first dog was also a stray we picked up in the centre of the city of the neighbouring village, it too was pregnant. Shame I remember how it would vomit when it tried to eat food at the begining. Had her for long. We called her Optel (pick up).

That's sad, too.I remember reading something about a newborn baby being found at a hospital with a note that said something like,"I'm only eleven years old and I can't care for this baby,I'm sorry, please take care of her." Another one happened in a town nearby a while back, a 13 year old girl gave birth in an outhouse at a state fair, the baby drowned in the crap in the hole.Imagine how scared that kid must have been, imagine how guilty she's going to feel for the rest of her life. I think all hospitals should have a spot for just such a thing, with a strict policy of don't ask, don't tell.

Maybe people are dropping pets off in your yard because you are known as the person to take care of them? That's a nice reputation to have.

I think the Powers of the Universe, The Force, knows I'll feed and help them, so they get sent to my doorsteps.

You're probably right. And I leave food out for them as well. I think the cats must have some way of communicating, lol."Hey, go to this house man,she throws out leftover steak and shit! She's a real sucker!"

Well, I did read up on wild animals.
Daily, my wife puts out a quart jar of dried whole kernal corn, and a jar of very cheap dried dog food, two separate piles, about ten feet apart, outside our dining room picture window. Daily, we get deer, possums, raccoons, foxes, and crows. We have a really great picture collection of the animals eating too.
We wondered how they knew or found out, until we read on the internet, (yea, I know) but we read that a wild animal seeks the fecal droppings of an other similar animal on a trail. When that deer , for example, finds other deer shit, it knows that deer has ate, so it follows that deer's trail, until it finds the source of food.

Maybe a dog or cat does the same thing, I don't know.

That could be. But I do believe animals have their own "language" they communicate with one another with. And a cat's nose is supposed to be better than a bloodhound's,so I'm sure they smell the food I put out.

Ya animals are supposed to hunt... kinda like we us too (humans, not me) then we domesticated everything so when we're hungry, we go to mcdonalds, that's why when they're hungry they go to you.

They do hunt, but then there's always the problem of parasites and diseases from the things they eat.I was reading somewhere that cats actually chose to exist in a partnership with humans....they would kill rodents for us, and we would provide them with shelter. It was a win-win situation.
If an animal has been domesticated its whole life,it does tend to become dependent upon its human for food. But that's not such a bad thing when you consider it probably receives a better quality of life as a pet.

I have a stray cat that I've been feeding, desperately trying to find him a home before winter.I have six cats already, one being a very territorial Siamese,so I can't keep this one.I've wormed him and fattened him up, and he lives on my screened in porch amongst some boxes and an old recliner I left out there. He's a sweet cat.
Fast forward to Friday...I hear a cat meowing at my back door.I assume it's either the Siamese or the Persian, wanting in.I open the door and this little fluffy half grown kitten runs in my house right to the food dish(which is by the back door)and begins gulping the food down between pitiful meows. My daughter bathed the cat because it had gotten into some cooking grease somewhere and it kinda stank. The cat has been on my front porch, and runs in every time I open the door.It is starved for affection. I feel so awful for these guys.I won't take them to the pound because it's a kill shelter, and it was in the local newspaper that they are too full as it is. I just wonder how people can treat their animals like disposable lighters like this. These cats had obviously been domesticated...then, when the owners tired of them, they dumped them.

so you got a new cat cuz i bet you dont get rid of it now

No, I simply can't have any more, I'm at my limit.I'll happily feed him for as long as he's around, but the reason I'm worried is because our winters get so damn cold here,he could get frostbite or die.I can't let him in,because I have a very territorial Siamese who absolutely goes apeshit when I get a new cat. He'll get pissed, and run off for days at a time if I let him out, beat the shit out of the new cat if it's a male(which this one is)....for the well being of the cats I own, I can't take in any more.I'm already changing the litter every other day.

They've been killing things and eating it for millions upon millions of years, they evolve and get passed the parasites or they die, just like we die to cancer and all types of diseases. Shit happens, people are dying everyday, why are you worried so much about a cat? I love animals and humans, just not sure why you're so caught up on one cat.

I know what you mean. One time there was this guy in front of my house who's pitbull had got hit by a car so because the dogs leg got messed up he just abandoned him. So I called the dog over and petted him while calling everybody I knew to try to find him a home. Finally I found someone who would take him, after going to the vet and fixing his leg he was healthy and happy as ever. Dogs still happy and healthy as ever to this day. It makes me sad seeing stray animals on the street looking for food.
