How can i increase my yield?

ok so last year i had 7 females growing in 3 gallon pots, i used MG potting soil then top dressed each plant with high N bat guano and worm castings, then i added fish emulsions to every other watering. this worked fairly well for veg 5 of the plants grew well 6-8ft tall and 2 of the plants were small because of watering stress. for flowering i top dressed with high P bat guano and added botanicare pureblend pro bloom. i was somewhat disappointed with the yield because i only got 1lb total from my 7 plants.

this year i plan accouple changes, 5 fem violator kus, 5 fem red dragon. I know these are smaller but i want plants that finish earlier. Im hoping to get atleast 2lb from my 10 plants.

this year my changes will be. to grow plants in 3g pots until 3 ft tall then transplant into big holes in the ground. grow in a better organic mix something alongs the lines of Subcools supersoil, im thinking

Good organic soil, high N bat guano, high P bat guano, Bone meal, worm castings, Dolomite.(im skipping blood meal, because of critters around my area)

In addition i will also be using the General Organics Biothrive grow, Bloom, and Bio Bud

So this is what im planning so far and im hoping the get 2lb from it. Do you guys think its possible. this will only be my second serious grow, i dont plan on making any noob mistakes with watering this year, so that should help my plants along with the new nutes. Is there anything im missing that youve done to increase your yeild? any tips or pointers are appreciated :weed: +rep

How is it possible that you had 7 6ft tall plants and you only yielded 1 lb. I don't even think thats possible.. ;-)

Man what strains were you growing? Were they good genetics? 1lb off 7 plants is more like a good indoor harvest. I can't imagine what you did SO wrong. I think you could've used MG fertilizer and still have gotten more bud.

Were your plants infested with mites or bugs?
Were the plants healthy looking, meaning were the leaves dry and crinkled and falling off?
Were leaves discolored?
Did your soil have a lot of manure and compost?
Did you ever check your ph?
Did you use tap water?
Is it excessively hot or cold where you live?

These are just some of the reasons your yield could've been diminished. I noticed that you said you added all kinds of organic amendments to your MG soil. MG already has enough nutrients to last 1-3 months, and with the added nutrients you put in it's possible that you burned your plants and stunted them for life. I guess next time if you want to add amentments and make your own soil, start with a better base. Preferably a coco based soil-less mix with beneficial bacteria, but a peat based soil-less mix will work well too. Otherwise you don't really need to add amendments until the plant shows deficiencies. Hope this helps.

After re-reading your original post I noticed that said you had your 6-8ft tall plants in three gallon pots. Without enough room for the roots to expand, the plant may get tall but the bud will be light. Generally you should give your plant one gallon for every foot of verticle growth. So for your 6 ft plant you would need a 6 gallon pot. And for the 8 ft plant, an 8 gallon pot etc, etc.
That could be another reason for the small harvest.

of the 7 plants females i had 2 were chronic x white rhino, the other 5 were mystery clones, the chronics grew christmas tree shaped and the clones grew bushy with 4 mains stalks. 2 of the clones were stunted and shitty, only got maybe 1 oz off the 2 combined. from the 3 good clones that were probably closer to 5.5ft than 6 but i could not even come close to fitting my arms around them, i got just over 3 oz off each plant. For my two chronics they both looked like christmas trees the one was just over 6ft and the other was 8 ft swear to god but i only got about 3 oz of the big one and 2 oz off the other. I am being completely honest about all the sizes and everything. when I saw my garden i definately expected more than a 1lb, i was pretty disappointed. Im sorry i dont have any pictures for evidence but the plants didnt go through that much stress either, abit of watering stress in veg but, they were good through flowering, and i did not nute burn at all considering wat i was using, the plants looked healthy too a pretty good green without any abnormalities. I definately lay most of the blame for low yeild on the smaller pots, which is why i plan on having them in big holes this season and hopefully that will help.

Also the location is an open circle at the edge of a small evergreen forest, the trees completely circle the opening and are about 15ft tall, theres about 250 square so the plants had enough room and about 8 hours of direct sunlight with another 4 hours of undirect light.

Also organic is the key to my grow i only used that MG potting soil because it was easy

also only bug problems were budworms, I did use tapwater since im in the country its straight well water so its pretty hard. Not once did i PH seemd like to much hassle considering its organic

Also im from Ontario so i dont have the longest growing season, my chronics didnt start flowering till mid august and i had to cut them early october because theyd been frosted 4 times atleast and i figured the weather was so cold during day / late in season so i figured there was little good to keep em going.

I have always had terrible luck with MG. That's just me though. Better soil = better results.
I'd try higher yielding strains. There are plenty that yield 800-900g per m2, and in 8-9 weeks.
Whereas most strains yield 1/2 that, and sometimes take longer to finish.
Greenhouse Seeds has 5 of the 6 that I know of that yield like that. Chimera has the other.
I'm sure there are others, but I know of 6 for sure. Exodus Cheese, Super Critical, Super Bud,
Pure Kush, White Rhino, and Chimera's Mental Floss.

You're on the same latitude as me so should probably consider indica dominant strains. I had a sativa growing under that big bulb in the sky last summer, and an indica under it as we speak. The indica is growing twice as voraciously and it's barely even spring yet. Autos are pretty much a waste of time in my opinion unless you're going guerilla planting

Some skillful toping and training will go a long way towards increasing yield too. Go for bush rather than height. The bigger and wider the holes you can plant in the better.

yeah lol im definately not going with autos since i want to increase my yeild not decrease.

I am thinking barneys Violator kush because it finishes early, and either greenhouses white rhino or kalashnikova any one grown those?

does it seem like my changes for this season should produce a better yield, i know organic doesnt produce as much as chemical ferts but i should still be able to get more than 1 lb

It's called the tafbang special. It's illegal in most of Asia, and will get you beheaded throughout the greater middle east. Best not to attempt something like this, leave it to the professionals.

Theres really nothing wrong with MG if you add a bag of perlite to it and you don't add too much nutrients during the first few weeks to months.

Yes i am staaying 100% away from MG from now on, not only because i beleive there are better products out there but also because MG is a subsidiary of Monsanto which i would prefer not to support.

is pro-mix a decent medium? i was thinking about getting acouple bales of that, also my hydro store has some bags of botanicare soiless anyone know anything about that?
