how broke to be "poor"

I saw on the news yesterday that the program for helping poor folks pay their heating bills was getting some cuts. To qualify for LEAP a family of 4 had to make 2800 a month of less. My family of 3 does not make much more than that, but I don't feel poor. I thought that 2800 a month was not quite poor enough to be using my tax dollars to pay someone elses bills. I don't want kids freezing to death, but at the same time I dont want to pay someones heating bill so they can still afford his cell phones, cable, and internet.

I'm an Obama backer, but I think it's stuff like this that has the tea party's panties in a bunch. I'm tired of supporting the "mildly needly"

I feel you on that but I guess it all depends on where you live. Where I'm at 2800 a household is cutting it close due to living expenses being so high.

To me, a cell phone and internet are necessities, not luxuries. Cable TV is worthless tho..............

that would be something that would have the republicans panties in a bunch, not libertarians, but according to the governments own statistics under 23,000k is considered poor for a family of 4 so the reality is there is a lot more poor people then they say because the numbers they use. I don't make a whole lot more than you and I don't feel poor either, but I definetly can't save money. Id define poor as only have enough money to get from check to check which is probably anything under 94K for an individual these days, sure Im happy with much less but just because Im happy doesn't mean Im not poor, Ive been happy making less than 10k, because I can handle poverty, been there and done that.

94k or so is what you really need to make in order to save and invest these days...but 94K!!! Your probably thinking if people make over that then they are rich! Exactly....thats why there is no middle class anymore...

The programs LEAP and LIHEAP have been around long before Obama took office. So logically speaking teabaggers should be happy that he cut funding for programs that Republican POTUS's have not.

Where I live $2800 a month isnt shit due to living expenses. Also most homes here are heated w/ oil which was at $3.49 last week when I called for a fill up, its not cold here and prices are sure to climb soon.. When youre heating expenses for a season are around $2000-$4000, thats tough on a $28000 a year salary......this cut is gonna really hurt tons of elderly people that cant afford heat in sub zero temperatures.
