How Big Can A Beginner Go? First Hydro/Supercropping from Clone. Critical Jack.

Here's my first shot at a hydro grow. My last lady was Critical Jack that produced 2oz dry. That one was vegged for about 3 or 4 weeks and was about 8 inches tall when flipped to 12/12. I took a clone from her around 1-7-13 but it didn't root for 3 weeks. It drank water continuously so I let her go. Once her roots were about an inch or two beyond the rock wool then I put it in the bucket.

My bucket is white so my first fill turned green. I covered another 5 gallon bucket in duct tape, filled with water and let it sit for a day to day and a half. I added one cap full of vinegar per gallon of water and used fox farm grow big and big bloom at 1/4 strength. She exploded and drank the whole bucket. I didn't top the water or add anything. When she had about a gallon left I switched her to the original bucket that I covered in duct tape and spray rubber.

That brings us to the current position. This time I upped the nutes to half strength. Still just ff grow big and big bloom. She has drank almost all of the water/nute mix so I just added one gallon of mix with one gallon clean water today.

Im using tap water left out for over a day and vinegar to ph balance it. Fox farm 3 part nutes, 5 gallon bucket, 1k mh/hps lighting, changing/filling water every week/two. Since I covered my buckets I haven't had any coloring of my water, lockout issues, or any other problems. I'm running 24/7 lighting for about another two weeks max. She's only been in veg for a little over a month now but already much much much bigger than my previous plants going into flower.

Ill post more pics and update as things happen. Feel free to give some helpful advice or input. Just remember that this is my first attempt at training and hydro. I can't put into words how much bigger, healthier, greener and better looking she is than any before her that I've had! With that said her are a couple pics of her. The top is even and she is almost 2ft across already.

Follow a feed schedule.. and SKIP the vinegar- it can cause slime mold! I have the Fox Farm Schedule for DWC if you'd like it!? MOST important part of DWC- checking the pH DAILY and adjusting using STORE BOUGHT up & down... baking soda, vinegar etc. are short-lived and build-up causing issues. pH up & down are cheap and easy to get, so go with those... and a decent meter! (About $35)
In our very 1st Hydro grow, we got 4-6oz off each of 3 plants.... it's all in the lights, nutes, a big enough bubbler in the bucket, a stable pH and tending them daily! (And growing a strain known to produce well!) ;) Have fun! And good luck on your new grow!

Wow! This is it for a first timers attempt? What does a guy have to do to get your input? I mean, I think she is pretty damned good being that I've used vinegar to ph balance my water, without a ph meter. She hasn't shown burns or lockout that I've noticed. Once I got past the initial weird growth from cloning a flowering plant she exploded. The canopy(over 2 feet across) is huge compared to any plant that I've grown. That's roughly 20 plants, Including autos. So I'm really excited to see this one to the end. I've been getting roughly 2oz per lady but this could put 10 or more based on it being many times larger than previous attempts. That, and its hydro instead of soil. I'll be posting pics every few days. Flowering has begun and I'm seeing the fruits of my labor after two days! Will get a pic of hairs when lights come on in about 4 1/2 hours. Hope to see you there!

Here's a shot of her and the space she takes up in my 4x4 tent. The other, smaller bush is a white lavender mutant thats coming thru a nute burn. The younger ones on the table are; #1 and #5 are madness, #2 is mamba Negra, #4 is thc bomb and #6 is stacked kush if you can see the numbered pots. Anyways, this is about my first hydro which I think is looking completely amazing!

Can you guys recommend any other nutes to add in with my fox farm big bloom and tiger bloom? I could really use some input from experienced minds.

I liked the fox farms when I used it man. They have the 3 additives for flowering all soluble nutes which seem to work well. I've ran them in hydro along with the grow big and tiger bloom I had cut out the big bloom because of how much residue it caused in my trays. If they are working good for you though, keep it up, and try the 3 pack of solubles if you want an addative. Your plant is looking great so far, and is supper bushy!

What are the additives you're talking about? The only thing I've used are the fox farm 3 part, grow big, big bloom and tiger bloom. I've heard about molasses too. What's the deal with that? Are there any nutes that fox farm doesn't provide? I'm using the ff hydro.

They also have 3 soluble additives. https://www.google.com/shopping/product/15086224716519448073?q=fox farm solubles&hl=en&rlz=1C1AFAB_enUS455US462&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.43287494,d.aWc&biw=1366&bih=667&sa=X&ei=XHVBUZzyNq38yAGhg4CQDg&ved=0CFIQ8wIwAA

Molasses is only useful in organic soil growing. It feeds microbes in the soil, they feed the plant, the plant from my understanding can't really use the molasses in hydro.

thankyou for the rep thundercat ;-) x

don`t put molasses in hydro! i did it on my second or third grow and fucked them right up, i had to chop a month early. as for the ff additives, as far as i`m concerned they`re a waste of money. i used them for a few grows because i had them and didn`t notice a difference worth the money spent.

No problem unlucky, now that you posted that I've actually seen it before I think. Perhaps a pic of when you first set it up with it empty. Either way its a great looking grow, I can't wait till I can upgrade to at least one more light. If you havn't been over, stop by my thread I just harvested last weekend, but I've got another batch in, and some new gear I'm running for the first time. The thread goes all the way back to my start on here in 08, but there is pics just a page or 2 from the end of the recent stuff.

I used the fox farms for a few years, and grew some nice healthy, tasty plants. I don't buy into the snake oils and the expensive nutes really. I've tried several different brands and combinations over the years, with the same genetics, and always had very similar and good results. Its not about what nutes you use, its about using them right. I'm a firm believer in less is more, that being said I really don't know if I saw much difference using the soluble boosters vs not. But again the plants were healthy, the buds were fat, and the smoke was dank. The bottles of boosters also lasted for years, that's in fact when I stopped using fox farms, when I ran out of those. I just figured I'd try something else. My favorite nutes so far that I feel gave me the best growth, flavor and price point are from a company called ENVY. Heres a link http://www.envybrand.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=70&Itemid=79 the only reason I'm not still running them is I moved and can't find any where locally to get them. They produced very little salt residue on my equipment which tells me there is less on the roots to. When you do the break down on the Envy its about 8 cents a gallon to run it vs my current GH flora nutes which I believe are about 12 cents per or something like advanced nutes which I believe are around 16-18 depending on the additives. Just something to check out if your running hydro.

Got my ph/ppm tester in mail today. Can't wait to check my reservoir and see exactly where I stand on nutes and ph. She's growing very nicely for my first try. I still can't believe its canopy. The canopy is already 4 square feet but the plant is only about 18 inches tall. What do I do if my canopy gets bigger than my scrog? I didn't expect it to get to this size but its a good miscalculation. When do the majority of the new root growth stop?
