How are things looking?

Hah! I first thought those were slips of corn, not lemongrass! Personally, all your unplanted space looks lonely for plants but I think fork and spoon will more than fill the space.

Did you get your coolant leak fixed? It's hotter than Satan in a sweatshirt south of the twin cities. My ac is struggling. 20230619_143358.jpg

No, as much as I love my cool car, I don't do these kinds of things myself lol. I saw the puddle under the car, took pictures, turned it on and got big bad no no sign so I killed the engine and let the jeweler I do work for pt know I'm not coming in.

In the mean time I'm working on things from home.

Also let's be clear, I am only newly leaning how to grow and not kill plants, LOL. My gardening skills are a work in progress.

Last year I planted too late and lost almost everything to frost before I could harvest anything. Five years of trying to grow asparagus... I gave up this year and pulled all the crowns. I pulled all my strawberries and overhauled the soil contents, all this year. It's my first time growing bok choy, romaine, shallots, red onions, cherry tomatoes and of course cannabis. I've grown tomatoes but not San marzanos and not from my own seeds. Lots of new this year and I'm adding 6 new kinds of bearded iris to the garden this year when the rhizomes come in late July. This is the most vibrant and successful my garden has ever looked really, but I finally sat down with some reading material and learned, so I could do better. Unquestionably, there's room for improvement. Which reminds me, this year I'm going to try a floating row cover to protect my golden zucchini because last year, in the bed my onions are in now, my zucchini was savaged by squash vine borers.20230621_105429.jpg

Lovely work.

You can never have enough green onions, In my life anyway! I roughly follow Mel Bartholomew's square foot gardening but really I only use his grow medium. It's been very successful for me and you can plant things really close in it.

Also, you have one of my arches next to your house!

It's over a supersweet 100. I was kind of dumb to have bought this plant, it's a little too much plant for me to handle and it grows at a shocking rate. It's supposed to have a gate on the front but I couldn't make the gate work for what I wanted this for. 20230621_103457.jpg

Pathologist came by and swabbed 5 birds. He thinks I will get the MG results from the euthanized chick today. Both the healthy chicks in the brooder are males and growing quickly.

It rained! For the first time since May 14! This was my girls' very first rain. They, like many plants in my garden this year, have been watered entirely with city tap their whole lives. I'm excited to see how this affects their development, and more nervous about my tomatoes. They seem to get septoria leaf spot every time it rains for any longer than a few hours, lol.

A good rain can do a lot for growth. IME it's much better than watering. Pot gets septoria too. Might be a good idea to use something now while they're in veg.

For some reason rain water is so much more beneficial then tap. I'd see an explosion of growth after a good rain, vs the hose.. The problem in my area is come late sept/early oct it would rain for weeks on end, non stop, everything always molded up. Tried building a rain cover and hurricaine winds blew that to shreds along with my crop. I gave it up..

Hopefully the weather is more kind to you!

Lettuce looks like its jammin too.. At some point may want to tie down one of the plants to a fence post to give the lettuce some space. Would actually bennefit both plants
