Horizontal Growth and Vertical Growth

This is the first time I’m ever trying to grow. I have no clue what the strand is. I’m just growing a seed that I found in my bag of weed. I’ve been pretty much successful so far I think...

I’ve kept my room at about 70 degrees and humidity around 68-70 as well.

I had a question regarding vertical growth. At what point should I start to see the plant grow vertically? I started growing this plant 4 weeks ago. This is what it looks like now. It has a thick canopy. Does it look like it’s growing as it should? When should I see it start to grow upwards? I heard when it starts it grows fast. Do I need to prune it and start to train it? I’ve never done this before so I’m trying to learn correctly before I start to grow the other seeds I have from Seedsman.
Also I just noticed I have some green stuff growing on my soil around the inside edge of my pot. What could this be? Thanks in advance!

What kind of light do you have it under? If it's an LED, what is the actual power draw?

Hmm, how about distance to the light? Those plants look healthy enough, they are just lacking the size they should have, so you need to troubleshoot all the major variables. It could certainly be your media, is it just regular potting soil? It looks like it could use a bit more aeration. Also, what nutrients/how often are you feeding? It's great that you want to figure this stuff out before planting your good seeds. I like to keep a "test plant" around that I experiment on-I always test new foliars/dosages on it first, to see if the leaves burn.

you can top that plant let the side branches grow. you can also water a bit less often if you have algae. also i think your medium is a bit heavy on the N. to sum up i had some plants that were lanky and some short and stubby like yours in the same exact conditions, its mostly genetic but i think too much N is a minor contributing factor too.

I did have my light 20 inches or so from the top of the plant. I just moved it up today to about 30 inches. And I haven’t done anything regarding feeding the plant. I’m using an organic performance soil. The only feeding I’ve been doing is giving it water every day with a pH level of about 6.5-7. I was about to start adding this Sta-Green to my water. I’ve read it is good. How do you achieve more aeration?
since I have some algae forming in the soil I was going to go a couple of days without water to try to get rid of the algae on the surface.

I’m an amateur. What is N? Also what do you mean top that plant? Thanks!

I have been keeping my humidity around 70% but I’m washing thinking it’s time to change it to 45-50%
