Homedics Brethe Air Revitilizer... Scent and plants...

Ok, so I'm in my 4th week of flower so I finally decided to figure out what to do about odor control. I'm doing a small closet grow and I'm on a budget so I did countless hours of research and was going to buy ONA... Instead I decided to give something else a try... Here is what I did...

I put 1/8 of a cup of the crystals in a bowl, added water until it looked like the crystals could absorb no more water, and I also added in about 10-15ml of Essential Oils... http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=IF-7093&sourceType=cs&source=FG&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=IF-7093

1/8 of a cup of these crystals was enough to fill a LARGE mason jar, and the scent is good and strong, but not too strong. And so far I've only invested $8 in this because I already had the essential oils in the house, all I had to buy was the crystals...

Now, how to get the smell to fill my grow room... I remembered I had this homedics brethe unit... It's basically a bucket with a top that has a fan... It has holes on the top the the fans blows down and around and the air comes out the top smelling fantastic... Just like some of the DIY ones you may see on forums, except I lucked out and just had this laying around not being used... Now normally with this unit you fill it with water and drop in some of homedics oils and let it runs... the fan spins the water around in waves and the scent comes out... I decided to just drop the crystals in to the fill line and let it run... Works absolutely great, within about 1 minute all smells were gone in my grow room, and I'm hoping that these crystals will hold water long enough to where I'm not having to refill this thing everyday... I just started it up today so I'm in the testing stages...

This is my main question... I do NOT have the air revitilzer blowing on the plant or anything... It's on the opposite side of room and blowing at the wall, not towards plant... Doesn't need to be blowing anywhere near plant, this thing fills the room quick... I used Lavender for the essential oil. Do I need to worry or watch out for the plant breathing in this scented air and it doing anything to the plant? I know this is just masking the smell and not really eliminating it, but it works fantastic so far... I just want to get some opinions on the plant breathing in this scented air and what it could do if anything... First grow here so...

Worse case scenario this thing will go in my living room if it will harm the plant...

Also... I plan on covering the blue LED light the power button emits... I'm guessing having that light in the grow room wouldn't be best so I know to cover it up...

Nobody? My concern arose from reading about ONA and how some people said the plants would come out tasting like it... Now, all I've ever seen on forums is people saying that, but nobody with first hand knowledge saying if it was true or not.

Masking isn't a solution.

Carbon filters or ozone or both ...


Dont get me wrong. Sometimes the little excess, like when drying can be more or less masked as needed. Not everyone can run chambered multi-filtration rooms. And the first stages of drying are the worse for most setups when it comes to odor proliferation.


Problem is your nose will get used to the background smell. The analogy or what not is simple: people with cats dont smell the litter box. People with dogs dont smell the funk on their furniture.

The only reason you'd be masking is for safety. Dont trust your nose. It has/will be come desensitized.


As for masking agents "flavoring" ... yes. ONA can with the right conditions impart fragrance and embed odors into pretty much everything. Your plants are much more permeable than other materials and potentially will absorb more.

The breakdown or relative half-life of airborne things like perfumes (large category, just have to call them something) is not something you can predict. The curing process and other things will all impact the final potentials of residue in/on the plant materials.

Better to build a cheap carbon filter setup as your first line of defense. Cycled ozone for cleaning major spaces later on ... then add your favorite masking scent that doesn't scream, "Hippy pothead burning incense." It's all about the visual profile as well as the olfactory one.


There are other plants and such you can run in a main living area that will stink and provide masking (long list of potentials there and environmentally depend). Problem is that you increase chances of pests by doing that etc. More plants to take care of and all that rot. But it would just be for the random chance you had a leak from just checking on the plants when a knock at the door happens. Otherwise ... kill it at the room source before it can get everywhere. Ensure positive air pressure/venting into the rooms.


Harming the plant? Almost forgot ... not likely. The way that thing works will just make most people's eyes water a lot. Again, your nose will not notice, but to other people it will be lavendar skunk in the house.

a carbon filter and a suitable extractor fan is the best option, if you can find a way to get the funds , i would advise you to get the carbon filter
they are excellent and are the best option

if it is not possible for you to get a carbon filter and a decent extractor fan, then the only thing that will come close is ozone

ozone works very well, it will leave the area smelling like a public swimming pool (chlorine) but before you consider it, you should read up as much as you can, ozone if misused can be harmful to yourself and your plants

ozone needs to be running most of the time, 20 mins for each hour that the lights are on to be useful at removing the plants odor
when you run ozone on a cycle like this it has a half life of around 30 minutes in these normal kind of temps and humidity levels when lights are on
when lights are off and temps drop the half life of ozone can be unpredictable ozone could remain in the area for hours and build up to dangerous levels
this is why i never run it when the lights are off, and i always run the ozone with all the fans running so the ozone is sucked through the plants and straight out of the grow area
get a machine that has a repeat cycle function or a machine that can remain always on, this is a very important feature of the machine, do not get one without this. 200-300mg per hour of ozone is more than enough, you can find a models like this for £40 in the uk, in the usa they are cheaper $30-40

ONA gel imo is overpriced and only works for very small grows , you can make things yourself that work just as well as ona
essential oils and oil burners or the wall socket plugin types that use essential oils,
tea tree oil and pine oil are the main ingredients of ona, from what i can smell
i have found using fabric softener/conditioner (lenor) mixed with water and concentrated disinfectant like zoflora works well to fill the air with a nice smell that helps to take the edge off the weed smell
put the mixture in a shallow tub/tray that has a nice big surface area and point a fan at it, the mixture will slowly evaporate into the room
this will easy work as well as many pots of ona, and is much cheaper
