Im sure their are lots of alternatives, Promix and Sunshinemix are both 60-70% Pete Moss.

Your local garden store should be able to help you. Ask for Pete moss or Soilless mediums. These are types of dirt that are Neutral with no nutrients.

Ideally you want a light, airy mix, that is neutral with no nutes.

Just talk to someone in at your local gardening store, they should know whats available in your area, just tell them that you want Neutral growing medium, with no Nutrients.

i will buy cooltube but there are several size of cool tube.
i have decided to buy homebox L and so i will use 400W hps.for venting i will 4'' fan vortex model.

but again i am confused about cooltube.
which size should i buy for 400 watt?
there are 15cm x 49cm and 12.5 cm x 49cm. and 12cm x 39cm.
whice one should i buy ?bigger is better ?

If I were you I would just ditch the cooltube and get a good aluminum reflector instead.

I have a Homebox L with a 400W HPS and proper ventilation and feel no need for a cooltube. The temp stays at 23C, dropping to 20C at night.

Get a cooltube. The size doesnt really matter, just get one that will fit inside your tent.

15cm x 49cm will probably work best for a single 400, or 600

4" vortex fans are pretty damn powerful. Especially for a single light.

The 15cm cooltube is 6"


If you go with a 6" (15cm) fan and a 6" filter it will work better with the 6" cooltube because there will be less restriction.

I would Highly Recommend that you buy a 600w because they are way more efficient for lumens/watt.

The 600w HPS runs at 98 000 Lumens

The 400w HPS only runs at 50 000 Lumens

but again,there is some troubles:

1) there is no digital ballast in my country.i will buy analog ballast. what is the difference ?

2)more powerful fan means more loud.is 172 cfm absolutely not enough for homebox L and HPS 400 watt (or hps 600 watt ) with COOLTUBE ?

if so, i will buy 6'' vortex . (but i dont want bigger fan because it means louder )

3)as you said,

cooltube is 6'' .vortex is 4'' . i will make a carbon filter that would be 4''.

air goes : first 4'' carbon filter. second 6 '' cooltube and third 4'' vortex vent .

how can i connect these items to each other ? and does this system work prefectly although diameters are different ?

for air cooled reflector, i cant find cooltube or aircooled reflector in my country
i will buy cooltube another country .but for air cooled reflector, i can only find these model in europe (other model may be availble but they probably wouldnt send worlwide )

Magnetic ballasts are fine.

If you choose a cool tube or an air cooled reflector it doesnt matter, they both do the same thing.

I would recommend getting the 6" vortex fan and also buying a fan controller. Running a 6" fan at a lower speed is much quieter then a 4" fan at full speed.

You can run 6"filter - ducting - Hood/cooltube - ducting - Fan(pulling)

Just make sure to seal up all the seems to prevent leaks and it will be fine.


It will work with different diameters, but if you match the diameters your fan will have to do less work and will run quieter and get more airflow.

Any HPS lamp will be good for Vegging and Flowering.

Aircooled hood or Cooltube, it Does Not Matter, they do the same thing, some people like the cooltube, other people like air cooled hoods.

Nutrients should be decided by the type of grow. If you are using Organic soil, then use soil nutrients.

If you are using Soilless dirt mediums with no nutes, that are neutral, then you can use Hydro nutrients.

Yeah, a Better bulb cost more up front, but you get Better results and they last longer.

But I browsed the thread and I figured I should throw some info I have out there...

I built my own tent, with Panda Film...

I use an 6 inch cooltube with a HTG digital 600HPS...

My tent is 36"x20"x54" or ... 91cm x 51cm x 137cm...

I recommend you go with a similar set up... and with the carbon scrubber, I would deff. go with the 6" fan...

It makes things easy... 6" duct everywhere.. no adapters...

Also, Potenza, what language do you speak?

Hydro is easy guys... I am a newb... and I am so happy with the results... but I WILL RESPECT that everyone is different...lol...

As long as your not flowering, you can have mothers, clones, and Vegging in the Same tent.

Clones, Mothers, and Vegging all need 18on/6off photo period.

Only the Flowering plants need 12/12

but i should be sure the plans is female to take clon.
thats why,when i take clon,mothers are in flowering but clones in vehhing period.so,it is impossible to grow clones and mothers in same box.

just an idea but if your wanting to do mothers and clones you could alwayz just get some fluorescents for that part and use the hps for flowering. check out mr. greens how to grow cannabis on youtube. its a great set up and hella easy to do

for example i have a mother plant that is in vegging stage for 2 weeks.it means that she will go to flowering stage about 3 week later .also, i am sure that it is a female.
i cut a clone from her while she was in vegging stage for 2 weeks.that is my question:

in this example,my mother plant will go flowering stage about 3 weeks later.
will my clone be ready to go to flowering stage 3 week later,just like her mother ? because i got my clon from her mother when the mother was 3rd week in vegging stage.

Are you using an AUTO FLOWERING strain?

If you are not... it will only go to flower when you turn the lihgts from 24/0 to 12on/12off

Cannabis is sensitive to changes in light...

If the Mother you have is NOT AUTO FLOWERING, you can keep it vegging for years... and when you want to flower, change the light from 24/0 to 12/12...
