home made plant food?

Hi i just started growing a few days ago but haven't got any food as of yet. My dad said that cold tea and the water from boiled potatoes would work, I'm just wondering would it be ok to give my plants these?

Why not buy some nutrients made for marijuana? At the VERY least, spend $2.99 at Wal-Mart for plant food.
