Just wondering what the optimum, open air, scrog canopy area would be for a HLG 550 v2 (non R-spec)? I'm throwing it in a 5x5 room but I wanted to be able to walk into the space and hand water ect.
HLG 550 v2, optimum footprint?

Just another 4 sq ft of growing space. But it'll be fine for a 3x4 canopy.

I guess maybe I'm also a bit skeptical that it will cover a 4x4 adequately in an open space like a 5x5.

Yep!. I run 18 in a 20x30. Open, they are a 6x6 veg footprint, and 4.5x4.5 flower.

yeah but he has multiple lights with overlapping cones... I thought about that too. Really though I think the 5x5 wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah that overlap would be a massive difference.
I guess for a single unit a reflective retractable curtain/blind can be used without much trouble.

That idea sounds a bit tight to do maintenance, but if you use Mylar, or just paint the walls flat white, it should be fine.
