The best free GPS app for a smart phone I have come across is the Magellan TRX app it has a 2D terrain mode that works well that when zoomed turns to shaded topographical with high map detail. Much better then my gps's map and its accurate on a iPhone anyways.

Did I mention it was free ? Its 100% free

Do any of you guys use the Sawyer Squeeze filter? I have always used Aquamira drops, but am thinking about getting a filter.
The Sawyer is great. Pump filters were one of the things that used to make me hate backpacking, although I'm sure those are better now, too. The Sawyer couldn't be easier, just fill your water pouch, screw it on, and squeeze to drink or fill another container.

They are real popular with AT hikers. But the full sized one, not the mini. Flow rate is way slow on that one I hear.

My only concern about filters is that if they freeze, they might not be actually filtering your water, and you have no way of knowing. But then unless I go north, that is not a problem.

Nice view. If I ever decide to post to YT, I'll let you know. One of the AT thru hikers I'm following this year just posted a video about folks coming up to him on the trail, and fucking with him, thinking they were being funny. His Channel has caught a wave and he has 2K+ subs and views. I would never do anything like those numbers, but just the thought of folks knowing you, and you don't know them is enough to make me wait.

Last month I looked into the Sawyer squeeze and picked up the set with a 2L 1L and 1/2L bag. Works great to fill the 2L camel bag with it can be done by gravity or squeeze.

I used the inline filter kit attachments to screw the squeeze into to fill the camel bac water sack. It makes for a clean fill and can be set up to gravity fill easy enough.

I've got as far as buying a 1.5 liter Evernew bladder. They are supposed to fit the threads of the SS filter better than some of the other bags. But I'm still using the Aquamira drops for now. You have to wait 7 minutes after combining part 1 & 2, so I go ahead and do enough to treat 3-4 liters, then use it as I need it during the day.

I did 3 days 2 nights hiking this week. Lots of little pop up showers. Just enough to remind you what a pain in the ass rain is when hiking.
