High Frequency Fert Help

Hey RIU! I’ve been growing in coco from the start. I was taught to treat it like soil, water when dry type deal. As I’ve grown in this journey, and tried new things. I have stumbled across high frequency fertigating. Man have I been using coco wrong. This is my first attempt at it and I’ve been experiencing an issue with one plant, my ppm going in is 800 my plants are mid to late veg. And it’s runoff out at 600, I’ve also been experiencing an Mg issue with this plant. I’ve increased dosage and still getting similar results from the runoff ppm. Am I watering to too much runoff? Or is my coco not buffered well enough? The runoff isn’t coming out brown it’s clear. What do you guys with more experience think? Thanks

"High Frequency Fert Help" is the title of the thread but you never state how often you feed? If you feed once a day in coir then it's not often enough for proper growth rates IMO.

You shouldn't have to feed more than 400-500ppm feeding two times a day in veg. It's better to monitor and troubleshoot pH whenever you experience a problem with a complete readily available plant food.

I feed up to 4 times a day in veg but never go above 500ppm on the food. Pot size is crucial when growing in Coco coir to get proper aeration and being able to feed frequent enough. The surface of the coir should always stay wet and never dry out.

How do you measure runoff? You should only take reading of the last few drops/part of the runoff to get a more true reading. If you only take the reading from what's coming out in the beginning you will get a very false reading.

My bad rookie mistake I guess oops. And I let it runoff for about 10-20 seconds before I start to collect it and measure. at this point I’m only feeding twice a day at 800ppm. 5 gallon pots. Ph is 5.8-6.0. Up until this last week I had been treating it like soil and watering when dry to runoff. This last week I had been feeding twice a day as stated. Once when lights come on and once about 9-10, hours after that.

I did notice this last feeding that my runoff is quite a bit more than 20%. I feed at about 750-800mL and my runoff after I let it drip for a few seconds is around 200-300mL. I think this could be a partial factor.

5 gallon pots is huge for coco, most of us use 1-2 gal.

Lower ec in the run off says hungry plant to me, I'd expect that your mg issue is actually ec related?

That’s what I’ve read I increased dosage by half a gram for both a and b. But even with this last feeding runoff is still under. I might try fertigating to runoff only once during the day instead of both times. Probably feed to runoff after lights off dry back, than feed without run off before lights out.

Seems like for those running smaller pots they’re more frequently feeding throughout the day. I’d assume you probably feed at least 3 times a day probably more at that pot size. I’m going to try feeding to runoff only once instead of both times for the day.
