High Bay Shop lighting to grow?

Does anyone know if there would be any problem with using a high bay shop light to use for growing. They make them in both HPS and MH. There is a shop in my area unloading these 400w HPS and MH units for $20 each.

Only problem i can maybe foresee is maybe heat? I don't know how hot these ballasts get these bulbs, maybe can rig up some cooling system for it. Then again now thinking theres the fact that they would be vertically mounted instead of horizontal. maybe would be worth picking up for just the bulbs and ballasts? Or do you guys think it would just be a wasnt of money.

Im setting up my first system and trying to keep costs down. I feel like i can find stuff for cheaper with the industrial market and integrate it into my indoor garden.

The ballast is wired for 277V, so I'm not sure about using those in your home. I'm no expert, might be a way to get it to 115V. The reflector and housing are two feet high!

Nice find for $20, I'd say grab some and see what you can do. If nothing else, they are worth a bit more than $20.

The wires on the ballast will be labeled on the inside so you can see which wires to use for different voltages. just a little fyi

yeah for sure thanks guys! I wouldnt imagine why there would be a problem with these. It's just my first time and ive been doing an uber amount of research to try to get this as right as i can lol.

Im building my own Ebb and Gro system. yeah there was an add on craigslist is how i found this the add says 115-277v. I will definitely have to modify them. Even if it means trimming the reflector down which will probably have to happen. Also relocating the ballasts wouldnt be a problem for me. Im very handy with electric.

you can also make them into a remote ballast easily

I was wondering if anyone has tried the conversion bulb for MH to HPS. I think Plantmax is the brand 360V.
