Im for the cfls.partialy because im waiting on a hps unit rt.now.never used1. I veg&flower under flouresence.done growed me some bomb w/them this time too!

CFL is right for me because I have a small area, 2x2x5.5 and I don't want the heat. Also, it is a steath cab, so I don't want any noise or fans blowing out.
HPS obviously gives you larger bud if you have the vertical space, but if you don't, 10k CFL lumens per sq ft will give you great bud also.

Using 10 k of cfls makes no sense it puts off as much heat as a 400 which would out produce it.CFL is right for me because I have a small area, 2x2x5.5 and I don't want the heat. Also, it is a steath cab, so I don't want any noise or fans blowing out.

I might be off saying a 400 hps outgrows a 1000 watts of cfl but when you look at energy consumption its pointless not to use a hps..1000 watts is a 1000 watts whether its from hid or cfls so to use 1000 watts of cfls would be cheating yourself when you would and could pay the same or less going hps as in a 1000 watt or 600..

I was talking about heat. As I mentioned in my original post, I do not deny HPS can out perform, I just can't deal with the heat in my sealed 22 cu ft cabinet. And, as I also mentioned, because of the stealth aspect of my "furniture" I cannot have a bunch of noise or vent output.
Oh yeah, and I think you misunderstood, I have 10k LUMENS per sq ft, not 10k watts of lights. I am currently running around 400 watts.

1000 watt cfls will put off heat..
Dont you see everyone with a stealth set up using hids..Ive seen more than a couple to say you can use hps ina small stealthy closet grow.

ill try to make this as short as i can..seeing as im really high and tired...but this is why i choose cfl for my current grows...we all know an hps you will get bigger denser buds..thats not whats in question...i grow with cfls for space reasons...heat isnt really my issue..its height...my grow box isnt but maybe 40" tall....if i put a hps in there.....thats going to knock the height down to at least 25-30" from the bottom of the light to the bottom of my box...so if i would use a hps...i would have to keep the plants well under 10" tall just to keep from burning the hell out of them...where as with cfls i can keep my plants much closer to the lights..and i can drop as many as need to get light to about anywhere on the plant...since im growing in a stealth dresser...cfl's are my best option...now if i had a whole room to grow in or at least a whole closet/tent...yes...i would use an hps in a heartbeat...but since i dont have that option right now i use cfl's...and if you look around a lot of people are using them...are they the best..no...but when did the lumens of your grow lights=the size of your cock...because thats how serious some of you take this "hobby" we all have...grow with what works best for you..not everyone is the same...nor is every grower the same...if your getting high on the bud you grow with whatever lights your doing...mission accomplished.

Agree. My cab is the exact dimensions of 2'x2'x2.5' and I'm running a 400w HID for Veg in there. I originally had the cab setup with a 125w blue cfl but growth was slow and the 400 just seemed the way to go for my veg area. As stated if your having heat issues than go fluorescent . If temps can be tamed HID is worth the extra cash.

I don't know where you keep getting this 1000 watt cfl stuff, I don't have 1000 watts. And no, I don't have ventilation, my cabinet is sealed, and climate controlled. I converted a deep freeze, using the cooling system to climate control with a thermostat connected to the power. IE. the freezer is not plugged into the wall, it's plugged into the thermostat, which turns it on and cuts it off at the desired temps.
Now, I suppose you are going to say something to the effect of "if you have cooling, why not use an HPS?" 2 reasons, #1 I don't have the vertical space, this is the biggest reason. The unit is divided into two compartments, a flower chamber and a veg chamber. #2, I experimented with HPS and the heat is so extreme that the freezer ran almost constantly. It would run and run, shut off, and 10 min later run run again. Just not what I wanted, to have the cooling system running constantly.

Agreed! If what I, or anyone else does, #1 gets you high, and #2 provides you with an amount that is acceptable to you, then what's the problem? I just don't understand all the banter back and forth from people trying to convince us that HPS is better for OUR grow.
This thread specifically said, tell why it's best for YOU.
