Hey everybody i am new to the site and new to growing! This will be my fist attempt at this and i need some feed back on some questions i have. I ve been reading this forum for a little while now and lots of people on here have some awesome post and pics.. So that's why now i have a question and i am hoping that someone with experience can give me good feed back !

What i want for my set up is 400w Solar Storm LED and with that said the set up is going to be a tent grow.. Now i am not going to bother you guys on all the equipment cause i want the opportunity to experiment by myself on the rest.. How ever with that in mind its the tent that's killing me for the answer... Secret Jardin Dark Street II DS90, 36" x 36" x 64" now the 3 x 3 is fine by me... its the 64" 5.3" is what is on my mind.. I guess my question is.. is that enough high for that led set up or am i going to need to go taller?? I have lenience to go higher if i wanted.. but next size up from that is 6 and for one plant the tent then seems to be too big.

I know some of you grow with tents some don't.. But to also keep in mind is its only going to be one plant at a time with the idea of later on going with more plants..But thats later later on .

My apologies if this topic has been touched on several different times but Ive Googled the shit out of it and can seem to really find the answer to the height problem.

hey i am not apposed at all to HPS/MH either.. so its just the heights of the tents that is my question.. on adverage is that height of 5,3" adequate enough for a small closet grower

LEDs don't provide enough lumens to get the big impressive colas that you will get from HPS.
Lumens are a measure of visible light from the human eye, so it's not always useful, especially when it comes to LEDs. PAR watts, and photons are better to consider when growing plants.

Jnkinc - It should be fine. That will allow you atleast 3 feet of plant growth, and space for the pots, and the light to raise and lower to your desired level. How long do you plan to veg? And how big of plants do you have in mind?

Hey bro, 5'3 is plenty. To max yield with one plant your going to have to LST or top or both, if you train your plant to fill your 3 x 3 area with canopy you will have plenty of head room to spare. Height might be an issue if you don't train the plant though.
Best of luck with your grow

Well after reading and reading and more reading I want to flirt with the idea of vegging for 5-6 weeks. I am going to use the full fox farm line up which I have everything ready to go. Basically ffof and all the nutes to the soliulbles. I was thinking that a 5 gallon pot is what I like to grow in. As for seeds. Well I have a line up of a viriaty.

Afgan kush x White widow
Skywalker OG kush
Nirvan White Widow
Bomb berry bomb
Nirvana swiss cheese

Not sure which one I want to start with first. But I am leaning to the afgan kush and berry bomb. But yes. The height I worry about. I think the 400 watt should be way more then enough for 1 plant

From what I read, it's okay to use 1 gallon for each month of of its life. So a 5 gallon may be a bit big for the time you plan to grow, but it sure wouldn't hurt anything. May just reduce your height clearance a bit. I grew one of my plants out for 7 weeks, and LST'd it to a canopy height of about 24 inches, and her untrained clones are going on 3 feet tall, vegged for ~5 weeks. You got a pretty nice selection there as far as seeds! Let us know what you choose!
Happy growing

Yea 400w is plenty for one plant, You will need to veg for longer than 6 weeks if you wish to train her and fully utilize your 3 x 3 space, at 5 weeks veg you will fit two plants comfortably in a 3 x 3 area.

So I'd still be able to fit a carbon filter in there as well? Would a 200w led be better? Like I said. It will be just 1 for now. But maybe 2 in time.

Lol actually 1 more question. Do I need one in that small tent. Or can I use 4 inch inline for both intake and exhaust ?

Carbon filter is only a must if smell is an issue, you could fit one in the top corner of the tent or you could have it outside with just ducting running to the tent.

Stay with the 400w, if you get a 200w you will only want to upgrade in the near future.

4 inch fans for intake and outtake will be ideal in your tent if your not using a filter, intake at the bottom, exhaust at the top. If you are using a filter it might be best to have 4" intake and 5" exhaust....never scrimp on airflow.

Those solar storms are very expensive! Hopefully it will pay for itself in electrical savings.

Because I am a newbie to this it that's one thing I have been looking at with all this. Like I said I am not apposed at all to the tried tested and true way of MH and HPS But power consumption with LED is a lot less that's a givin. The only thing with then tho is I can't seem to find anything on what they give off for heat. Now that may sound funny. But I live in Canada. And basement tend to stay colder in summer. With the bubs I know they emit enough great that in a pinch to up the degree I can use a small heater if need be. However the LED I am lost on. Your right however with the 400w that as time passes chances are I'll want to upgrade. The 200w seems more reasonable for only 1 plant lol.

I looked up the light, and it looks really nice. I've talked to a few people that use LEDs, and they say that there is little heat output.
But I do think if you looked into a 400w with aircooled hood, it would be ideal for your situation. We have an HPS in a small closet, and temps stay around 70-74f/ 21-24c during day, and high 60's/ ~20 at night.

As for the fans, they are typically rated in Cubic feet/ minute, or CFM. Your tent is about 50 cubic feet. You want the room to exchange the air once ever 3-5 minutes. So you would be good with a small inline rated 50-100.

You could have your carbon filter attached to the ceiling of the tent, and attach the fan on the outside of that so it draws the air through the filter out top. If you got air cooled hps, you could just attach the filter to the opposite side of the light, and connect the fan to the hood.

Like this. The right duct is attached to a filter.

The reason you want to pull the air through the filter rather than pushing is because carbon filters have an outside filter that collects debris before going through the carbon. If you were to have it the other way around, it would pass the carbon first and it would defeat the purpose of having that, and degrade your carbon quicker.

Well now iam even more excited cause i finally bit the bullet and made my choice. 400w Solar flare is on its way ! pretty dame excited too! thanks to everyone who posted here cause all your advice really helped me out! The heat issue iam sure i can work it out if i need a inferred heater... there great cause they can kick out a ton of heat at a very small fraction on cost. And i guess if the solar flare dosent seem to work out.. i guess ill have to ebay it! lol

I like your set up! What you Growing now Dr J ?

I would be interested to know how you like it once you get it. I've always like the LEDs but to me, the technology is too new to get a good price on something that will cover lots of plants. I feel it's a lot easier to warm up, than to cool off.

Thanks a lot!
Right now, we have some HSO Blue Dream being set up for a perpetual grow, and some seeds from BC Bud Depot that lost their labels. I have. Rock Bud seed in that bag, I'm hoping its that! Ha.

Lol I actually seen your current project after I posted that. I am very very interested in the blue dream that one looks interesting. However Ashely is looking very nice as well!

I am a bit nervous about the led. But at the same time excited. Yes the reviews are mixed. But I am not in this for commercial growing and it seems to me that's where lots of the complaints come from. Yet I've seen some really good looking journals as well. However most of them don't actually show end results. They make it to the harvest and pretty much end there lol I am sure I can figure out why in the rest lol. I am not going to start the actual grow till April/may sometime. Just for reasons being. I want to set my brain of the conventional way of growing and experiment on led/veg times. I have a little theory that I want to try out. I am sure others have done it but there nothing wrong with a bit of experimentation ! Its the berry bomb that has me a bit interested for the reasons of it doesn't mind a bit cool temps. Now with that said I am sure I'll get reved on for that comment.

It's very exciting to grow! It makes me love cannabis that much more. That's how a lot of journals end up that I follow. Not to mention the lower temperatures will actually make the colors in the plant come out. Yes, we have plenty of seeds left if you ever want to exchange them I be more than happy to try to work something out.

Yes! Definitely! I know that with this now all coming together that once it starts it won't stop! Lol

Do you have the ability to have 2 seperate grow chambers? We are at about day 80 from seed, and I can say I never want to have to wait this long again. Haha and we aren't even done.

No i am not. I just want to keep it small for the time being. When i work out some stuff that i want to try along with finding and getting the right temps and stuff then maybe ill look to expand.
