Hi guys, Just planted my first germenated babies and joined tonight

Hi guys, greetings from Scotland. Just spent the last 2 weeks prepping my grow den. Decided to take the step and grow my own bud for personal so to eliminate any dealings with dealers as its still illegal in Scotland but I'm only growing 4 Autoflowers in a 1x1x1.5m growtent with 800w double led 10w light with 4'' carbon filter Rhino fan. I'm growing it I'm my loft (attic) as you guy say in the USA. Although I live in a terraced house the loft is bricked up so no openings to my immediate neighbours. The loft is about 16ft x14ft and fully insulated . Height wise I have about 5ft space as I have joists and rafters above. There is loads of open space so I've made a wee growing den lol. I'm using a light mix and phd my spray water to 6.3. I'll be using biomix grow after about 2 weeks as the first two weeks I'm only giving water. I'm gonna 1/4the organic biomix grow for the first 2/3 weeks of veg and increase gradually. I'm also using biomix bloom for flowering but taking one stage at a time....I'd be so greatfull for any tips on how fellow Mj lovers grow theirs and comments on my new setup. Cheers guys

Thanks for the encouragement. My main concern is smell. But hopefully the brand of filter and I'm also planning on getting some ONA 1litre gell for outside the grow tent and for my living space, the loft is 2 floors up and no neighbours infront or outback . I hardly have visitors just dropping in I'm hoping that I've prepared enough to be super stealth and also not told a soul so fingers crossed my garden is a success

You'll be fine with the carbon filter I think. I have about 4 to 5 plants going at any given time and the smell is minimal. If anyone is coming over I'll light some scented candles, no one's the wiser. Till they trip over the extension cord running under my closet door.

Cheers dgthumb, hopefully my garden wont fall prey to nosy neighbours or the authorities....the extension lead I
Has been taken care off hahah.

Thanks kiwipaulie, I'll be posting pics as I go along so feel free to give some brutal honest criticism lol. Don't know what it's took me so long to do it but I'm loving the challenge and learning so much about our beautiful plants, excited doesn't even come close hahah

Ona blocks = waste of money... stick to scented candles they're cheaper and last longer... (just my 2 cents)

Congrats on the first grow..

I'm doing a little research on why people pick certain seeds. Why autoflowers?

My own research indicates that Cannabis ruderalis cultivars like your autoflowers tend to be light feeders.

One of the most important things is cultivation knowledge.

1) Get a book, DJ Shorts "Cultivating exceptional cannabis", "Teaming with Microbes", Jeff Lowenfells "The Science of Gardening" by David Whiting. and so on. If you read those 3 books from front to back, and comprehend it, you will be competent in growing.

2) Listen to the dude grow show. http://dudegrows.com/ Its one of the best growing podcasts I've found so far. Its free and it literally has HUNDREDS of hours of cannabis specific growing advice.

3)Keep a journal.. it makes tracing failures or success easier.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks guys , I'll take all your comments on board. I'm gonna give ONA a try and see how it works out but I have heard mixed comments. I've just found some earthwork rolls in the loft (it's used for heat insulation and also great for sound proofing) planning on creating a insulated makeshift cupboard that the grow tent sits in, this will hopefully create stealth like sound and heat detectable tent within tent......but I'm unsure if this will be a good idea.

I guess I chose autoflowering because this was my first grow and did not want to over compline and get the basics first time. Probably for the following reasons.
1. Time scales, 60-75 days to harves, as bus is still illegal in Scotland (the short growning time reduces possibility for getting caught.
2. Ruderalis tend to grow short and bushy like indicas and this was a factor when considering my grow space.
3 , yeah your right, light feeders, if you mean that they only need light nutes , I guess this was another reason why I chose autos, I wanted to minimise my nutes as I really want my girls to be as organic as possible. I'm using organic biobizz nutes herin Scotland and I've heard that these are as clean as they get?????

Thanks for the heads up on the recommendations, I'll be sure to check them out.

Thanks

The best nutrient usually doesn't come in a bottle. If anything consider using products like compost, vermicompost to further amend your potting soil. Up to 5% organic matter added to the volume of your soil. If you add things like this you will use even less nutrients. A properly prepared soil is more important than nutrient selection, and further reduces the need for feeding. Its to their advantage not to tell you this concept.

Another scam is them telling you that the product microbe pack is a selling point, its not, Vermicompost or compost or even teas will have more active microbes than a commercial product. I'm telling you a compost tea you can brew yourself has roughly a 1000x more active microbes than a shelf stable product. I know this because I use a microscope to look at teas and various formulations.

But if you have it.. might as well use it.

 Yes
I agree, with a soil grow if you prepare it properly. You won't need to feed anywhere nearly as much. There's a lot of BS about this nutrient or that nutrient. I've had great success with just keeping it simple. Quality soil, worm castings, guano and some molasses.

Thanks guys, ideally I wanna eventaally strip back and try in grownin the most organic way possible but with all the BS online USA rather easy to be bombarded with contradictory info. I used biobizz organic light mix sol with perlite and phd water to 6.3. I planted my germenated seed into same soil 8" pots. I never watered the soil as it was moist anyway. I sprayed them till the top was a little wet but not soaking and covered then in clear food wrap, I'm gonna only water when the top is dry. I however have a question,

1. When do I give the seedling/veg her first full water (as in I'll see about 20% run off.

I'm gonna wait till the roots begin to poke out the bottom then transplant to 3 gallon organic fabric pots and will be using hormone power when doing this. What do you guys think of this approach.

thanks

Make sure when you do your transplant that the soil is as dry as possible, it'll stay clumped together better then if it's wet.

Its not about all organic, the point is that highly organic amendments have high cation exchange capacity, that makes your nutrients work better.

I suggest you do not upsize your pots, C. ruderalis doesn't take well to transplanting. Find the biggest one and stick with it.

Zero BS in my posts all concepts presented can be verified in the sources I cite. I think the concepts I'm trying to show you are too advanced for you if you are asking basic germination techniques.

Welcome aboard sir. I'm also from sunny Scotland and completed my first couple of grows recently. Have a couple of bagseed just about ready for the chop and am currently shaking all the shit left in my jar trying to eek out a one skinner. On the plus side, not payed some robbing c*nt £20 for a score-bag in about 4 months! Be prepared for the first grow becoming all-consuming - 2nd one you'll be a lot more chilled. A bit like having kids really...

All the George.

Hi guys, yeah I was asking for basic germ techniques, unfortunately I have already planted the germed seeds and the wee babies have sprouted , all 4! So I'm please I've got that far lol. I did intend to plant into the final but my amazon order was delayed and I had already started to germ the seeds and they had begun to sprout before my final containers arrive, should be tomorrow, so would it still be as jeapording to them, as they are so small? Growergonwild, I really appreciate your comments and my comment about BS was not intended for anyone, just all the bombardment of info available online. So thanks guys to all that's helping me out, it's very much appreciated.

So the babies have sprouted and about 1cm tall and have 2 tiny sets of leaves  , came home from work and the top soils was mostly dry, should I keep the clingfilm food wrap overthrew top of the pots till they are a little more taller and just spray with phd water, and when do I give them their first full water as to see run off?

herbet78 ....how you doing, aye yer not wrong when you say it becomes all consuming, I'm obsessed just now lol, yeah I too was getting pi**ed off at the extortionate amounts of money I was spending......so looking forward to feasting on the fruits of my labour:weed:

Cheers
