The guns "harming the owner" line again...

I've never had a gun decide to shoot me, what gives?

You mean if people have a gun they're more likely to commit suicide with a gun?

Because its quicker and (in theory) less painful?

Groundbreaking hypothesis, I don't know why noone else thought of it.
I've said it before in this thread but maybe you couldn't be bothered to sound it out. So, give it a try:

Gun owners occasionally accidentally discharge their firearm and maim or kill themselves or those about them. Injury or death due to accidental discharge of a firearm occurs five times for every time a firearm is used to protect or defend. This does not include death by suicide.

Owning a gun makes you less safe.

So stupid...if they shot "the entire family first" wouldn't the murder-suicide ratio be far more skewed towards the former instead of 3 to 1 for the latter?
You didn't read the story I posted, he shot his own family in a drunken argument over the washing machine....then his own son had to kill him

I read the story, genius...

With that being the exception rather than the norm, it's a shitty example of what you're trying to say.

Youre 3 times more likely to kill yourself than to kill someone else.

Guns don't kill, people do.

"Accidental discharge", is that what your wife told me you suffer from before she sat on my face?

If I posted 1000 articles about the completely stupid shit people have done with automobiles that killed them, would you be more in favor of banning automobiles?

Your posting has that effect on gun owners.

It's simple maths, the suicide-murder rate is 3-1...

If people were regularly shooting their families it'd be more like 1-4.

I just want to have a weapon to be able to protect myself. I dont care what some stupid redneck did with a gun. I dont care what someone elses kid did with a gun. None of that has anything to do with my own protection.

Maybe if we made euthanasia legal all those suicide rates by gun would drop. The government doesnt even give you permission to kill yourself, you have to do that illegally and often violently.

Weak reply. Give it up. People are safer it they don't own guns. I'm not talking about suicide. I'm talking about accidental death and maiming from guns.

Your stats are spurious. You DON'T KNOW how many times a gun has been used to protect an individual as not all of those incidences get reported, whereas most self inflicted gunshots DO get reported.

How many people called their best friend who owns an extra shovel instead of 911?

Why call the police? They are there to enforce law, not wipe your tears. Too often the victim ends up being prosecuted because of bullshit liberal gun laws in their state.

Good point. I'll never tell where the bodies are hidden.

I love how a ban on gun sales with no background checks at gun shows instantly turns into Hitler banning all guns... period.... forever....kind of hard to have a conversation on the topic when folks are tangenting off in left field. (Sorry...RIGHT field)

Sure..some folks might want to take away your gun ownership rights. That's not what this is. Even if you want to argue this is a stepping stone to taking away guns altogether you should probably start by arguing the actual current events...as opposed to simply snarling that "they will pry my gun out of my cold, dead hands!"

Showing people you're a rational, reasonable gun owner should probably start with with the ability to hold discourse on the actual topic at hand.....or I guess people could try to instill confidence by overreacting, taking the argument out of context and making wild Hitler comparison's.... Ya know.....whatever...

All I can say is I enjoy guns. But I have never here in the U.S. ever needed to fire 1 at anyone....I seriously doubt anyone on here has. The fact that you guys are joking about hiding bodies on an online forum shows that its pretty far from your reality.

Owning guns is fine (IMO). As long as the owners are reasonable, responsable and intelligent. Reasonable people being the folk that see no harm in being minorly inconvenienced when dealing with the bureaucracy of purchasing a gun if it limits the ability of nutjobs getting them.

In Australia you can still own a gun as long as you own a farm out in the bush (to protect yourself/livestock) or if you are a marksmen (sport shooter) but you must be liscenced and attend a yearly safety certification and be active in sports shooting competitions. I'm not saying we should follow suit, just that a system can be implemented that still allows for comprimise even in the most extreme case (being a ban on guns).

And as for the revolutionary gotta fight the tyrannical government argument...well clearly you never served in the military....you would be bringing a gun to a drone fight. In the middle east those folks are refered to as "decoys".

I've said it before and I will continue saying it.

There is NO situation which cannot be made worse by calling the cops.
