hey guys im new to the site and im havin a great time lookin at all the threads learnin more and more.... i have just started tryin to grow a lil bit of green and im tryin to have my first time work out how it is supposed to.... i realized when opening my jar with a wet paper towel that about 10 of my seeds have decided to open and the root has already popped out and i planted it in some miracle grow soil and put it in the closet.... my set up consists of a clay pot put inside a clear bucket that is wrapped in tin foil.... the only problem is that i havent bought a bulb yet..... i know i need a minimum of 250w but could use 400w.....BUT the thing im using now is a florescent 40w bulb which i know isnt enough.... my question is.... would my plant still grow well with a 40w bulb and if it doesnt is there any way i could change the distance of the plant to the light to maybe make it work better?

for lights, the more lumen the better. i guess you could prob grow anything under a 40w bulb, the question is are you ready for the quality/quanitity that it would produce?
 
well i just planted the seed today so would changing the light in the next 2 days screw up the germinating process or growth process in any way this early in the game?
 
no, not that i'm aware of. just change them out within the same half hour and you will be good. do you have your lights set on a timer?
 
no i sure dont.... as much as i wish i did..... im just gonna leave the light on when i sleep and cut it off for about 6 hours during the day..... that way i can keep better track of it..... but i was hopin on buying that light tomorrow so hopefully it wont do any damage to the growing process
 
o well thats good.... how do they work u just plug them into the power strip to power source and it cuts power?
 
yeah, pretty much.

put timer on wall. put stip on timer. put lights on strip. set timer.

best thing since setting up an auto dripper system with a timer too.
 
i see..... thats cool....... well i think i already have one.... the good thing about this kinda stuff is..... u can just use basic things that are around the house ya know? u dont have to go crazy growing these things.... but like always its not bad to have some help
 
ah i see.... thats a pretty creative set up......... what kind of lights are those? and what kind do u plan on growin?
 
lights are pretty low on wattage but high on lumes, currently i'm trying my hand at some seeds i got from a stash. i know i'm breaking a 10 commandment at growing pot but don't want to risk buying seed via internet yet. currently having some difficulty growing, i beleive i'm not letting my tap water set out to long (for chlorine to evaporate, water ph 6.5) and it may be the quality of the seeds too. so i'm going to start a new batch on store bought water (don't know if i'll still need to set out water for chlorine to evaporate or not) and after germination move seeds to peet moss. then, if the blasted things pop up move them to soil.
 
well store bought water should work well.... i dont think ur will have to wait for chlorine to evaporate..... i used regular filtered water that came from the fridge to make the seed pop..... so hopefully that will work with the growing process... o well im gonna go smoke a j real quick ill brb
 
oooook back to work...... feelin better now.... o well so whats the deal of seeds off the internet? i mean i know u can order these seeds by internet but is it easy to get caught or something?
 
hmmmm well the first page is pretty refreshing because there are seed depots..... but there is still always that chance...
