Hermie seeds

Consistency in seed production is necessary. The seeds I have saved from Fem Auto plants have been
100% female, I suspect from Nanas as I noticed no male flowers. The question being could I reproduce
the stress on my plants to consistently produce seeds. I am battling the outdoor stresses here in Fl and
have 5 different autos in production right now so I will see if it happens again this year. If so I could buy
a few seeds of a variety and then save seeds for future grows. I have a buddy that grows indoors and has
had no hermie issues with my self pollenated auto seeds? When you think you got things figured out is
right before you fuck up. Fire up a fatty

Those seeds, if from nanners, will be feminized. The only time it’s truly a drag is when you are selling bud. I mean I’m real life. The seeded bud is good to smoke and I’m separating seeds from buds now. Selling seeds and smoking bud. But these were bred intentionally and I’m not selling bud.

This panic when a hermie happens is silly unless you’re seriously counting on selling your product.
Sounds like a decent situation. I don’t sell any either. I give it away to family members older than I to mostly cope with daily bullshit on top of their existing conditions. Lots of ptsd, arthritis & insomnia between them. They’re always happy to see me. If I don’t come around for more than a weeks time… I get bribed with a favorite dish from their kitchen. Works like a charm.

I’ve grown seeds from hermies too. Just to see. They grew out fine. However I wouldn’t bet the harvest on it considering seeds really are pretty cheap.

Well I’ve grown proof that you are wrong. If hermies produced feminized seeds then we wouldn’t fucking need STS or colloidal silver. Would we?
Do you ever want seedless bud? How in the world would you ever get unfertilized female flowers?

Currently, there is no real scientific understanding of how or why hermaphroditism happens in dioecious plants (plants with two distinct sexes). We know we can induce it in weak FEMALE genetics SOMETIMES with something as simple as a light leak. Cannabis is considered a male if it contains a Y-chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes. Hermies do not have the male genetic material needed (XY) to produce male progeny (pollen). NATURAL hermaphroditic plants can have XXXY polyploidization, but Cannabis isn't one of them.

Feminized seeds has gene segregation, so they are not genetically identical (many phenotypes). This on it's own does not lead to hermaphrodism, but could. A clone does not have this problem. Reverse a girl and watch the phenotypes emerge.

So how do hermaphrodites arise? We don’t know. The hormone ethylene plays an important role in the development of female flowers. When genetically female cannabis plants are treated with an ethylene inhibitor, they will produce male flowers, apart from the lack of a Y chromosome, the molecular mechanism underlying this sex determination switch remains unclear.

To be clear, your girl lied to you and she did the nasty with someone down the road.

There are nanners and there are balls. Pollen from nanners will be feminized seeds. Pollen from balls can be either male, female, or hermaphrodite. I've used pollen from nanners to make seeds and all grew female plants that never exhibited hermaphroditism except a rare few plants that developed a few nanners late in flower.

The nanners will make feminized seeds while the balls will produce both sexes. That's been my experience and I've played around just for the hell of it.

Agreed. My 1st plant nanner'd due to light stress probably early in flower and I let it mature to 10w. Every seed was viable and every seed Ive popped has been female. A true hermie will give both, with all female having a strong phenotype of being hermie themselves. From my selfseeded plant Ive probably popped at least 50 seeds looking for a viable male to keep seperated outside in my greenhouse but have yet to find a single one. Nanner plants produce all female plants.

You’re wrong. I’ve been growing way too many years, Professor. I’m not a scientist but I’ve taken plenty of science. I’ve grown sinsemilla since probably before you were born. I don’t have to understand the science to know I’ve had the actual results.

Pretty clearly shows why @Boreal Curing is wrong, and nanners are nanners.

Grew my fist plant in 1972.

“Seedlings from hermaphroditic seeds, and anther tissues, showed a female genetic composition while seedlings derived from cross-fertilized seeds showed a 1:1 male:female sex expression ratio

I’m frigging done arguing with a fence post. I’ve grown way too many plants to not know.

When I have had seeds on my fem autos from suspected nanas, most of the time it
is few seeds or an isolated seedy bud. Much of the bud remains seedless. Where
a regular female exposed to a male will produce almost exclusively seedy bud. Interesting
article Harley. I would be curious to see what would happen if you take the nana pollen from
one auto fem and apply it to another auto fem variety. Would you get all female autos that are
actually a cross??? I guess I could put that MS in agronomy/ plant breeding to work?
Interesting how the commercial growers are having nana issues too. Happy growing and
I am willing to sample any finished product if you need a second opinion. :peace:

worst part is... stability of genetics, all breeders are going for the rush of gold of putting more strains in the market, more breeders, more competition, all fancy names... letting far behind, the quality and stability of genetics.

I bought a bag of some killer gas from my dude. Actual gas profile. Killer stuff. Anyway the oz had about 12 seeds I found in random buds. So I decided to grow them and ended up with 9 sprouts. All 9 developed nanners and the plant buds were seeded. I was thinking all the seeds should be female so I was excited to keep this killer strain going. I then decided to grow a couple small plants from the seeds I produced. Under perfect environmental conditions they all produced nanners. I was hoping the genetic trait for hermaphroditism wouldn’t be passed down but I was wrong. Hermie seeds produce Hermie plants.

Yeah, I guess it depends on genetics and environment. This season my hermie seeds produced all females no seeds????

Some users might find this Kevin Jodrey video I watched the other day interesting.
First couple of minutes of information is golden.
In particular that you can't detect hermaphrodism through tissue culture. They only appear either male or female. But also to find a true breeding female, they "stress the living shit out of it and it never herms".

Use to work with tissue culture lab and liner production. The whole lab process can bring out all
sorts of mutants/sports that for the most part are not good or stable, depending on plant species.
Good stable varieties take time and it seems like in many breeders in their attempts for the next
great thing or to make $$ don't take the time. Scientific comparison of varieties takes carefully controlled
studies in replicated trails over multiple environments to supply useful information. That's why many
commercial growers maintain mother plants of selected plants within a variety to produce consistent
clones and bud. They wouldn't hope that seedlings would produce the bud they want. Once they get
a good one, they are certainly not sharing it with everyone.
