this is making me wanna go check my trees over :(
You can use your fingers to peal back the nugs or do what I do. Grab a nerdy pocket size flat head screw driver and use that to poke around.

In regards to spraying and keeping them away...I don't know man. This is my first outdoor grow in years. I don't remember this bit of a problem. I do live in a pretty lush area so maybe I have lots of butterflies.

In the end you'll never beat mother nature. Just battle her forever.

You guys really need to read that sticky about catapillars in the outdoor or harvest by Fdd. It covers all this. In the end I think he still faces loss of nugs due to cat's dude.

I have a question. I'm a first time grower. I'm about 3-4 weeks into flowering and now have the caterpillar problem.

I just got some Safer Caterpillar Killer, but I'm afraid to use it because I do not want to ruin the flavor of the buds.

My question is: Does Safer Caterpillar Killer ruin the flavor of the buds?

Thanks in advance.:eyesmoke:
The caterpillar shit and mold sure will.

After spending a good amount of time picking about 15 camoflauge caterpillars off my little plants, I did go ahead and use a light dose of the BT. Gonna keep hitting them for the next few weeks. Hopefully it works out.

Thanks.

why are you going light? hit them full strength every 3 to 4 days until it looks like they're gone, then hit them once a week for maintenance.

i harvested a beauty yesterday. when i was trimming it, thats when i saw the bud rot. got that BT spray and sprayed today because i have 8 budding and i don't want to loose anymore buds to that shit. i understand that if you smoke the rot you can get sick. funkie if true.

I too am now battling them sounds just like Dubsfan case. I have 5 week left so I will be spraying the next 3 weeks and going out every 2 hrs and hunting them. Pulled out 30 today. Used the screwdriver method but ended up just peeling the buds apart. You aint kidding about the resin its a beoch.(pam nextime) Are the eggs those tan dots?

Discgolferman, I've played at Morley Field about 300 times. I'm a scratch player...good days I'm under 2-5 strokes though. Haven't been down there in a while. Been too busy picking off cat's.

Those tan dots are poop that eventually turns black and hardens like sand. I believe eggs are only under the leaves. Which is odd cause I never saw a one.

Fdd said not to let the poo get wet. It will mold. So be careful spraying. If you want to salvage those poopie buds pick off the shit and then spray.

Personally, I'm just cutting out the bad struff as I see it. Still not much loss but after I harvest I cut away what I wouldn't smoke, I could be at 20% lost to these guys.

In sticky on the outdoor thread Fdd lost 3lbs one season. :wall:

Keep up the fight!

I don't mean to bust your bubble but, BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) while it is a excellent "organic" insecticide, will do nothing for foliar diseases such as bud-rot. This problem usually requires the use of some type of fungicide either organic or synthetic.

I think the context of his post meant he's spraying to kill the cats that caused the bud rot.

No biggie...

Could be. Last years battle with the worms was localized to one plant. I think it's cause only that one had eggs laid on it. Just a thought. I've been spraying since early august so I haven't seen one yet. Plenty of grasshoppers this year.

It seems to me when I go out in the dawn I find more. Anyone notice any pattern if they like to come out in cooler weather or at night ?
Ok so I can scrap of the tan poo and I will cut of the black tar poo. :(
when I harvest I guess Ill keep checking out the buda as they dry and pick out any that are there I cant imagine they would just leave.

I'd still cut the mold out. Those spores are a lot smaller than your mesh and will mold your hash. :leaf:

sure sure.. But i dont see mold from the ruined shit.... it seems like the cat-poop kinda burns that area... you say that is mold? ... i guess i would have to at least cut those pieces out.... but i have never seen it to be mold...you know white/gray hairy shit?

:o....last year i smoked most of it and just "tried" to take the poop out breaking it on a white plate first... shit.

The last few days have been a pleasant surpise. I think I've made some headway. The first wave was scary. Pulled over 30 off of two small plants I started late...2fters. In the last few days I've only pulled of 5 from three plants.
