my plants don't look too happy and I think has to do with the perlite being stained green. Its probably algae. What do need to do? The roots seem to be white except for the algae, so no root rot... thanks
 
genetics? hempy phenotypes are pretty common from f2 breeders. or so i hear. but yeah, algae can't be good, cover the top of the medium with a black trashbag cut out for a while. should kill it.
 
Hempy Buckets are containers used for growing, not strains. Black poly, sand, or vermiculite all do well to cover the perlite and prevent algae from forming.
 
If algae is forming then you need to check your humidity as well, I run hempy plants in 3 gallon buckets and as long as I keep my humidity in check there are 0 algae issues. But putting a cover on and making sure you have a good mix of perlite / vermiculite is good as well.
 
Generally the Algae is not a problem in itself, but when it gets bad mold can start to eat grow and live off it. And that is bad.

So do like they said and check your humidity and keep light from the perlite.


However if your plant is not doing good. Its not because of this Algae.

You most likely have a deficiency.

How old is your plant from seed ? or is it a clone ?

What have you been feeding it ? At what strength ? At every watering ?

What PH ?
 
I had them in pure perlite(from seed), now there in bigger buckets with 3:1 ratio. They started out really slow watering them 0 nutes every 4 to 5 days with pH of 6.2 continued that with 1/4 botanicare G + superthrive. When they were about 4" pushed the nutes to 1/2. I had been feeding the 1/4 for about 2weeks by then. So at the same time I got nute burn I got signs of over watering, so I backed down on both. Steadly I am loosening leaves from what looks like over watering. Also I'm having lock out. I move my pH to 6. Ive never had so much shit happen, usually its just bugs then disease with soil. It could be that me and this strain aren't ment to be freinds
 
humidity is below 30. Its weird, I have some of the shitiest insulation and some highest RH outside(never below 75%). So even with the ac off never stays above 30%. I figured one of those expensive humidifiers was waste of money. I know you don't want high humidity, 40%/60% would be good.
 
wondering what ph do you hempy buckets users use? I know you can use any nutes you want, but is GH prefered? I figured my main problem is a cal-mag def.
 
I use the GH nutes, and absolutely love 'em. For veg I use an NPK of 5-5-10 and bloom 8-8-16.I try to keep my PH around 5.7-5.9 after letting the water sit to let out the chlorine and calm down to room temperature.

The reason I ask is I'm using botanicare, but I have FF and GH nutes. I have read about people keeping pH from 5.7,5.8 then 6.2. Now I know that the standard hydro pH should be 5.8.

I have two in hempy right now, I use GH Maxi series. There are folks here that say you don't have to pH for hempy, I have not tried it. I just use the dropper kit and get it in the ball park and don't have any issues at all.

From what I can gather, a lot of that has to do with the water that comes out of your tap and if you let it sit. For some people, their water might come out PHed at 6, then they can simply pour some water, add nutes and be good to go. What I do is pour out a few gallons of water and let it sit for at least 24 hours to let all the chlorine and all that stuff out, at which point my tap water rises to anywhere from PH7 - PH8.5, which is due to all the acidic stuff coming out. I'll add more acid to get it down to where it needs to be before I add in the Nutes (I've found that adding nutes does nothing to lower or raise the PH in your water, BTW.)

If you can pour right from the tap into the plant without PH problems, you're one of the lucky ones, but PH does matter in hempy. I just wish I had pictures of the burned leaf tips to prove it :P Naturally, I'd imagine some strains are fussier than others (like some would do better at 6.2 than others would).
 
Well it seems the critical + like the temp at 81-84 and not mid 70s. Ok, since you been a big help with HBs , what ec do you water your month & 1/2 at. This has been a cocern of my because they grow so slow at first. Now just transplanted from beer cups to 3&1/2 gallon containers. Ive been watering with a mix at .2-.5ec. My next batch is at .7ec. Thanks again Baron.
 
To be honest I don't even measure the EC of anything because they seem to grow find for me. I stick to the same nute feedings through veg, then change it for flowering and that's really it. That being said, I'm sure the .7 will be fine and then just see how they take to it. If anything is amiss I would gather you'd see the plant start to react to it (burned or discolored leaves, etc) and ten you can try and tweak your formulas. The changes and problems, if any, should be minor enough so you can just change up your nute mix and not have to flush with water or anything first.
