Were your plants in the same container when the one sprout died? Its kinda like a king of the hill thing in that cituation which ever one has the strongest roots gets to live. Unless they are friendly plants lol.
interesting... they started off in one pot but were separated just before it died... could be why though - cheers air... won't make the same mistake again...
