Help with wiring fan speed controller to....well, a fan

could anyone help me with the wiring of a fan speed controller..... first the fan has three wires..red, yellow n black.

The fan controller has 2 sets of wire..... the first set consists of two wires (yellow n black).

The other set has three wires...red yellow and black

I have tried connecting the 3 fan wires...to the 3 wirs on the controller, then the set of 2 wires to power,,,the fan then runs at normal speed with no control....

....grrr. I been waiting for my controller for a month, its now turned up and ive tried to find out but am just reading how people have burned them out...

....so i thought i better ask

One of those 3 wires in the 3 wire sets is a ground wire the others are positive and negative. Find the ground and just tack that wire to a bolt or something and the rest tie them with the other two and you should be ok. (USUALLY, the yellow one is the ground). Proceed with caution though. I would wait for a already made controller. You don't want to cause a fire and attract more attention than you need to.

Its just i need to put a carbon filter in for flowering soon, and i thought it would help the speed... same old eh, pay penuts, get monkeys, do you know of a good 12v inline 3 inch fan.. im playing with pc fans...maby 2 of them together...would you say im probably wasting my time with it? why a speed control on pc fans?

ive use a 3 inch ducting pipe as it was just laying around and i thought if i could mount some high cfm pc fans together it will be ok to adjust with a speed controller to vary the speed to adjust the air flow withing the carbon filter. But ive had a rethink...stop being bodge and get a proper inline..id have to maby use a reducer, cos it took me ages to stealth the all ducting to alow fresh air in at the bottom.( I will check that fan out navyfighter.....right now) thanx for all the help..
