Steam sanitize. Use a pot of water with a hand towel or something on the bottom to keep the jars from directly touching the metal. Only fill the pot an inch or 2 and steam for at least 45 mins.

use lysol!!! and you can only steam sanatize pf cakes or whole brown rice. you will get contams with wild bird seed or rye. you need a p/c

without a pressure coker, you will be limited to BRF cakes (brown flower rice)

When making cakes I've been going by this pretty much exactly. http://www.mushroomvideos.com/. It's the PF (BRF) tek on video, the first four video's at least. I have done this and on 2 batches of 5 cakes each I have gotten NO contams. I use a lot of lysol too and have an Ionic breeze in the room I innoc in. Don't know how much it works but that and lysol hasn't failed me yet. I don't have any gloves right now, I just take a shower and then wash arms in rubbing alcohol. Good luck

If you are fruiting over perlite bed when you initaly wet the perlite add 1.5 tbs of peroxide to water this help stop contams in fruiting chamber.

just a tip for later in your grow.

lysol doesn't work for what you are trying to avoid. contaminations come from the air, instruments and substrate.

if you want a spray, make 1 part bleach to 9/10 parts water. spray 10-15 minutes before you work. watch when mixing alcohol if you decide to use this.

also, get a pressure cooker. and get a high power HEPA-filtered fan/flowhood and blow the clean air over your innoculation site. and always flame sterilize your gear before your use it.

also, peroxide 'works' but is not very efficient and in the long-run will just bring about more problems.

get a pressure cooker, and learn how to do grain to grain transfers and spore prints. you will thank me later.

Peroxide works and is very efficient. It will prevent molds/mildew from forming in the extremely conducive environment of a fruiting chamber. In addition it is also a very potent oxidizing agent, which is beneficial to a fruiting chamber.
