This 40lb male raccoon demolished one of my smaller traps & then he tried to take my hand off.
Yeah, I know.
Mine was a boar & even though I raised him up from infancy he went nutz at about a year old.
He was actually dangerous as when we released him my father had made a really nice temp cage outta 2x2's covered with heavy duty hardware cloth.
We took him into the Everglades back country in our boat - we never actually made it to our intended destination as the noise & vibrations of the boat caused him to freak out & he demolished that cage - literally biting through the wires.
I set the cage on the shore, un-hooked the latch & jumped into the boat. He was fukin pissed !!

Both male & female raccoons will start being aggressive at sexual maturity (10-12 months of age) during mating season & it will typically last about 6-8wks & then they usually go back to being normal. Similar to Buck dear during the rut.
This female would take your head off if you tried to pick her up during the rut, but after mating season was over she would be the sweetest thing in the world...

Raccoon attacks 6-year-old boy before bystander kills the animal
January 28, 2016

The mother of a 6-year-old boy in New Jersey says she's grateful that a man raced into action to kill a raccoon that was attacking the child.

A witness told officers the animal had run across the street, jumped on Aryan Gavali's back and crawled onto his face Wednesday morning while he was walking to school in Elmwood Park with his mother.

The bystander ran over and grabbed the raccoon before beating the animal to death with a stick, police Chief Michael Foligno tells The Record newspaper.

"I cried, because the first thing I thought about was my own son," the bystander, Danny Walls, told WCBS.

“He came like an angel to help us," the boy's mother, Monali, said. The child was taken to a hospital with deep cuts but was expected to recover, according to police.

Bergen County Animal Control will have the animal tested for rabies. The results are expected on Friday.

What a cute little boy! I'm sure this was very frightening for him, but at least his wounds look pretty superficial considering how bad it could've been if that good samaritan hadn't helped...
I just hope that he doesn't grow up afraid of ALL animals now that this unfortunate attack happened.

Yeah..mental scars are tough ya know...turns ppl away from things that could be really great to have in your life....I'm surprised it didn't have rabies if it juse ran up in the middle of the day and attacked someone. ....I fish..hunt and ride four wheelers a lot so I'm in the woods a bunch...iv always been told if you see a coon in the middle of the day there is a good chance it's rabid...Im sure you have all heard this but I was just putting it out ...not like your gonna chase after one to pick it up anyway
