I own a viparspectra 600 and I am wondering how long do you keep the full spectrum on and do you give the plants a break at all . I want to know more about led growing . I kept it at 36 inches and now lowered it to 30 inches . Would it improve growth if I switch the cycle to 20 on and 4 off ?

Your plants will sleep regardless of lights off you'll kbow when they're testing because the entirety of the plant sags and almost looks wilted. But having the lights ON during that time, doesn't do them any good. If it's been on 24/7 you should go to 18/6 or 19/5. Any time during the day is fine for lights to turn off, but can help with the speed they grow if you keep an eye on them and match the dark period up to when they've already chosen to sleep.
