Help with Building a STEALTH grow box!

Hi Everyone,

I'm very interested in growing and I'm new to it.

Hopefully I can get some tips and help to build a stealth grow box or cabinet.

Here is what I'm looking for:

  • I want to produce at least 8-16+ ounces or more of dried herbs per yield. (So I think I’d need about 9 plants+)

  • I’m interested in a stealth grow cabinet, but bigger than a side table, maybe a dresser, locker or cabinet would work well!

  • I need to be able to fit it through a regular size doorway please. (Like that of an apartment or bedroom)

  • I would like to be able to grow clones and mother plants at the same time, so I wouldn’t have to grow from seed each time.

  • I don’t want there to be any smells at all. So I guess a carbon filter would work well.

  • I want it to be safe from fires or electrical problems. So if I go away for the day or week-end I don’t have to worry about it.

  • I’m interested in a CO2 hook-up and device to add 1800 parts per million to the cabinet.

  • I would need an exhaust fan unless I can use the carbon filter for that, plus an intake fan unless I can just use an ordinary portable fan.

  • I assume I’d need a PH tool to measure the soil and water and any other tools needed.

  • I’d want to have the proper lights needed.

  • If possible a timer for lights would be good, so I can set it for 18-24 hours or 12/12 just in-case I forget or I’m away.

  • A temperature gauge and CO2 gauge

  • An automatic CO2 pump to keep levels at 1800 parts per million.

  • A reflective inside to help use all light sources.

  • If possible a switch board to set the light timer, CO2, and view the temperature too.

Also, I don't know if it's possible to make it hydro or soil, I'd prefer hydro, but maybe that's asking to much for a beginner.

Please let me know your thoughts and ideas to building a grow cabinet with the specs I've mentioned above or close to it.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Cheers,
Superherbsmoker!

most of your plan sounds great, but a couple of issues -it takes a room to grow 8 - 16 ounces at a time, not a cabinet. an ounce or two if you do everything right is a better guess.

co2 only works in situations that don't need much ventilation. you'll be venting out all of the co2 just to keep the cabinet cool enough.

Thanks for the tips, I figure I use about 1 ounce per month on average, because I normally get a 1/4 each week. So in a year I'd spend over $4000 on herb. It adds up, that's why I want to grow my own and because I can grow the strain I want!

If it takes me about 3 months to grow ( I like sativas) for only one or two months worth of herb I'd still need to go buy from a dealer still, I don't really want to do that.

I wanted to grow enough each yield so I would have enough to last for many months to at least last until my next crop was finish.

If 8-16 ounces is to much for a cabinet, I'd at least want 4-6+ ounces. Or maybe I'd need two cabinets.

If I pick out a large stand-up dresser maybe I could get enough growing, I was estimating 1 ounce per plant, so I was looking for at least 4-10 plants.

How much room would I need for one plant? 1 square foot of ground space or 2? The height I figure I could use 3-5 feet would be ideal.

sounds like you know already how to build it my friend roll 3 up and get startde cheers
Thanks man, I have a good idea of what I want, I just need to learn and research how to do each thing I want on my plan.

The main reason I want to grow my own is to be in control of what strains I smoke and to reduce expenses.

My main concerns are stealth, smell, heat, and yield expectations.

I'm in an apartment and can't create an entire grow room and need to be stealth in-case of a surprise visit by the landlord.

i feel your pain but you're going to have to get pretty creative to get the yield you want. one option would be to buy an autoflowering strain that never gets too big and matures quickly. basically you would be getting lots of small plants maturing more often. another option would be to do a perpetual grow where you have a couple of plants maturing every couple of weeks. search perpetual grow, sea of green and scrog on this site for some ideas.

as for plants, the size varies greatly by strain and growing technique. as an example only, i can get 4 ounces off a 2 x 2 x 3ft high plant but you might only get 1 ounce off a plant half that size.

edit - forgot to say that sativas grow into trees, not something to put in a dresser.

Thanks for the advice, the reason I like Sativa is because I like an 'up/energizing high' something I can smoke and not get couch lock or lazy even during the day and actually be productive and work hard.

Because with dealers you get what you get, that's why I want more control over what I'm smoking.

I'm in touch with a great guy on this site who can grow "Kali Mist' shorter, he is a master at it and will be creating an entire thread for this topic.

I really want to grow short "Kali Mist" it's a 90% sativa, the king of sativas!

I wouldn't go through the trouble of growing if I can't grow sativa so that's why I was excited to find this member on the site, now that I know I can grow short sativas, my next step was to build a grow cabinet for them, and here I am.

LST. Here was a pic I took a while ago of a Purple Power sativa that I grew out in a 4" pot. It was a seed project, I wasn't going for yield at all. It was only about 15" tall including the pot at harvest. The main stem was a little over 2 foot, spiraled like a pinwheel. If you like that sativa buzz, you can make cabinet grows work. ScrOG and/or LST and a little bit of patience. Good luck bro.

That little thing yielded a bit over an ounce under a couple crappy CFL's.

Wow, that's cool man, thanks for the tips and pics, I'm still planning my stealth grow box, I won't be starting it until I move to my new place in a month or 2, it's an apartment so I have to be super stealth.

Do the sativa's smell allot? I've heard Kali mist doesn't smell as much another bonus for stealth growing.

I would like to grow 4-6+ plants of that size plant that you have grown.

I was debating whether to use CFL or LED for low heat and stealth, but the LED is very expensive, the CFL are cheaper but I'm not an election and don't want to start a fire.

Getting mh/hps bulbs seem good, but create allot of heat and that worries me, and that means I need extra fans which make extra noises to keep the heat lower.

all plants smell.

even a 4 day old seedling gives off an aroma when you hold it up to your nose.

if you want to yield an oz a month you'll need like a lot of plants and do it perpetual.

get something like this

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Orion-Four-Door-Kitchen-Pantry-White/10770248

and put a lock on it. important, always keep a lock on your closet.

and set it up so that one is your mother/clone/veg cab and the other the flower room.

FYI, you can yield 20-25 grams with a 2 foot plant.

in your position, with enough money, i'd just get a closet like the one above, 6 26 watt daylight bulbs, 6 clamp lights, a surge protector (multiplug with the red switch), a PC fan, and that's it for the veg/clone thing.

for the flower i'd fit a 150 watt HPS, remote ballast type, and vent it with another PC fan. there's PC fans that move the same amount of air, even more, than bathroom extractor fans....

the surge protector from veg box would plug into a cheap mechanical timer the timer would plug into this:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Inland-4320-Joules-Surgeguard-Rotating-Surge-Protector/10363655

i'd invest in a better timer for the HPS, but it doesn't have to be too expensive.

for light hanging and light proofing do some homework, that's practically all you need to know to get started.

Well first off i def suggest you get mh/hps lighting to increase your yeild

Here is a link to his journal, I talked to him after harvest and he got 400 grams off 5 plants scrog method, thats your best bet man.

Cool thanks for the links, I'm impressed with his grow setup and he lives in an apartment with little space. I don't have the electrical skills or building skills or tools like him, so I'd have to figure out a safer, easier way to do it, but it may cost me more.

400 grams that's great, it's about 14 ounces, that would last a year for me. Only 1 grow op per year is better than a perpetual grow for only a few ounces at a time. His box paid for a years supply probably $4500 worth of herb for the cost of the box and his time to grow, but next grow expenses will be much lower, congrats to him.

But just looking at his wiring and electrical skills and building tools he has I couldn't do the same.
