Okay so basically I'm planning on doing an indoor grow but I've got a LOT of questions to ask I've tried looking them up online but I just couldn't find some

so here's my situation I'm living in a house with 2 other people (I'm the legal owner of the house the other people are just renting off me)and I don't want them to know about my grow

1)will I be able to grow in a cardboard box (The box is quite big and thick I got it with my vacuum cleaner)
2)would 3 23W CFLs be enough for one plant
3)If I put a carbon filter on the cardboard box would it smell
4)Could I use 3 mini fans for air circulation
5)Does air come in and out of a carbon filter
6)Can I just use soil from my backyard

All answers and help is appreciated (this is my first grow)

1.) forget the cardboard box it will absorb a lot of heat... Buy yourself a stealth tent. Fairly priced... And many size options

2.) CFL'S are Good enough to grow but veg requires 6500k bulbs and flower requires 3000k bulbs... And hanging many cfl fixtures can create an unorganized space... Do yourself a favor and Buy a T5 if you don't want to go with HID lighting.

3.) Carbon filters are meant to release carbon into the space as well as cover up smells that come from the grow space.. I don't think mounting a carbon filter on a cardboard box will hold up... Tents allow ways of hanging needed equipment for your space

4.) by mini fans you mean what? If you do Buy a tent they sell clip on oscillating mini fans that are great for moving air around in the space. Just remember it's Good to also have an intake fan as well as an out take fan.

5.) carbon filters are attached to inline fans drawing air from the space and through the filter... So yes

6.) using soil from your own yard is OK to do dependent on how your soil is... You'd have to sterilize it to be sure it's Good enough for the plants to use... I personally use coco... Not to expensive and easy to work with Just make sure you add drainage like perlite or hydroton into your soil to prevent root rot...

:) Happy growing

I have a carbon filter attached in a cardboard box I use for drying. Basically, the filter sits in a corner of the box (propped up on a box). I attached it to a duct fan that sits on top of the box. You just need to make sure it is all propped up on something for weight.

Does the smell come out through the cardboard ? Also would I be able to use ona instead of a carbon filter

Not really. I have some small channels cut out of the bottom to let air in. Any odor is form not having a strong fan in there.

Ona, IMHO, is just like spraying an air freshener. It may cover up the weed, but anyone would wonder why that smell. It is a little institutional smelling.

Can you explain the sterilization comment? I use soil from my yard to inoculate my bagged soil with microbes. Sterilizing it will kill any form of life that is already in it and that life is what feeds the roots. The only issue you will have is the unwanted weeds that will pop up.

Good soil is full of life not sterilized!!!
