I have a 1' by 2' box with alum foil all around the walls of the box, im only wanting to grow one or two plants. I want bulbs that screw in to a standard light bulb socket, Im wanting to use cfl's but how many and what watts should i use for just one or two plants for germination and vegetation? Im doing this in a closet.
Also do you suggest germing in a paper towel or just starting them in the soil itself
thanks

Germ in paper towel, lose the foil, paint it white, I'd go w/4 CFL's, the wattage is up to you, as long as the Kelvin rating is right. I use 2700K fer everything, but thats me!

Given your setup I agree with what was said above but want to emphasize the removing of the aluminum foil. It will give uneven light reflection/distribution so remove it and paint the inside flat white and you will be much better off.

ok thanks for all the info, i'll remove the foil. just a couple more questions, should i keep the closet door closed? i dont need a fan if im using cfl's do i? and the bulbs should be about 1'' from the top of the plant right?

A fan is a good idea. It helps to strengthen the stalks. Leaving the closet door open matters when heat and light become an issue. Your seedlings will do better with 24 hrs of light than they will with temps over 80F.

As said above. And you can leave the door open when the lights are on, BUT CLOSED WHEN OFF!!!!
