help needed for lights in my first grow

Ok this is my first grow and my friend is giving me four female plants which are at a stage of flowering (in their 1st week of flowering still) i am not sure what should be the most effective light system to set up(in a small closet) in $300. Acording to the research i did i found 2 different light systems.

I beleive with the second link of 600w sodium bulb; i would have to set up some Fluorescent light on the sides and some reflectors too if i am not wrong?

All I want is to get the best light in $300 which will give me the best quality and the most quantity out of those plants.

Another thing i was wondering about was that how much bud four plants would give out normally. acording to my knowledge four plants with one of these lights should give me at least 2 pounds if i am not wrong?

hey wecome to riu. go to ebay you can find lights on there cheap under hyroponics..
what size is ur room??? you see when you put one of these lights in a room they get hot fast...ur going to need some kind of venting...if this is ur first grow i whould'nt hope for 2 pounds out of four plants..sorry..maybe out side...in a room that has every thing and all is good.... you mite get 2 to 3 oz per plant.. give ur self play for some messing up so about a 1oz more or less per plant.

I completely agreee with the above post.

I mean, dont get me wrong, i love LOVE Cfls, n if i could, i would grow with them all the time. But for larger yields, n faster too - go with the HPS system. If your lookin to do more than one grow after this, and you got 300 bucks,i would invest in a HPS/MH system with a digital ballast. You dont sound like you wanna do TOO many plants, so i would go on ebay just liek the above post advises, and check out a nice 400watt system that accomadates both MH and HPS.You wont be sorry that you did.

Also, you need to have either reflective siding, or flat white painted walls in your grow room reguardless of the lighting you use. You need to do whatever you can to disperse the light as evenly as possible around the plants. And you COULD use extra bulbs around the bottoms n sides of your plants, but with the HPS you really DONT absolutely have to. It wouldnt hurt though, as long as you got the heat issue covered.

N sorry if this sounds like an echo cat, i didnt mean to cosign to your post, i just agree, n wanna let him know that this advice is probably the best way to go for his situation.

LOL n man, you remind me of me 4 months ago. I planted 3 plants n thought i was gonna get like 3/4 lb out of them. Then i did some reading n almost cried, n then i got over it, n realized that this is all for fun mostly anways. Youll learn that soon man, just stick around here, n youll learn everything you need to know to be independantly plant-friendly in no time. N to be honest, you might get so addicted to growing that you end up tweaking your setup out completely by next time you grow, that you end up with like a 15 20 plant grow, lol.

Thats what ended up happenin with me i started on here with 3 plants, n everything was goin smooth n i was havin shitloads of fun doin it, n then one of my plants turned male, n it pissed me the fuck off, cuz it was my favorite plant. After that, i bought some fem seeds online, n it gave me the idea to just get a shitload of them to stockpile. After i started doin that, i realized - what the fuck is the point in gettin all kindsa seeds if im not gonna grow them bitches out?? so i started puttin together a setup for 10-12 plants. Im at the end of puttin everyting together now, and ill be startin my grow next week, goin from 3 plants to 10 soil plants, n experimenting with 1 hydro plant.

So Welcome to RIU, just dont get so addicted that you get to the point of wantin to murder your parents so you have more space in the living room to fit another 100 plants, lol.

lol its true...i started with 3 plants in lil soil pots..months later i had about 10 plants in a hydro ebb&flow..and hightimes mags and grow books its all i talk about my wife gets mad somtimes and tales me to shut up..you will get addicted to growing..but you'll love ur pot more and more....

does it really makes a difference in quality of the light if i use a digital ballast or REMOTE 400 watt HPS BALLAST? i know the digital ballast reduces less heat and runs quit but not sure about the quality of light.
