Help needed choosing a carbon filter...

Have currently got a Vents TT 100 4" In Line Vent Extractor Fan (187 m3/hour) in a Secret Jardin DS120 tent. Has had a couple grows use out of it and think Im best buying a new filter ahead of a planned Cheese grow. What Im wondering is can i just buy a new 4" Rhino carbon filter and Im good to go, or is that fan not gonna be powerful enough to deal with the stink of cheese bud?
Thanks for any help

when buying a carbon filter make sure the fan aint more powerful than the filter otherwise it will be pulling the air through the filter quicker than the filter can scrub it

Like redeye said, as long as the filter has a higher cfm rateing than the fan it's hooked up to then your good. The fan has nothing to do with odor, it's just moving air. It's all about the filter when it comes to eliminateing odor. I use a Phresh filter myself, but I've read good things about Rhino as well as Phat, Can and Mountain Air.

yep, I use phresh filters...I just had my inlaws staying here for a MONTH and not one of them said a thing about smelling anything as I am currently 6 weeks into flower. they were oblivious to me growing. the only giveaway is you can hear the fan outside the room its in but they still didn't question it

Just make sure your creating negative pressure in the tent so none escapes, if you smell it still i would advise checking your setup for leaks in the exhaust. I can not even smell it when im in the same room until i open the tent, i have 5 white widow going along with some trinity kush and shes a stinker

To get a good idea of how to combine the proper size of carbon filter/centrifugal fan, take a look at the can-filter (brand name) website. When you look up the specs for the various carbon filters they offer, they give suggestions for the different possible combos. Just remember not to run anywhere near the max cfm capable of being pulled through the filter. For example, if you had a 4" inline centrifugal fan you would do great with a filter capable of an 8" inline fan because you would insure that there is more than enough contact time of air and carbon as it is pulled through the filter if the carbon would otherwise be exhausted due to long term usage with the max rated fan for the filter. Bearing this in mind, I have used a multitude of 10" HO Can-Fans with Can-Filter 150's for 4 years and still they worked the same as if the combo was brand new.

I have used the following=

HTG el chepo = worked ok, quickly got exhausted though.
CAN filter = worked well, but also only lasted about 1 year. WTF!!
Mountain air. Expensive, worth every god damn penny. Going on 18 months and still works like new.

It is very very very important to size the filter and fan properly. That is why I like mountain air, they are very good at giving you the correct CFM. If your fan is too small, it won't scrub effectively in addition to wearing out the carbon unevenly. Same goes for too big of a fan.

If you can afford it, a mountain air will last you 2-3 years!! ANd they come with 2 outer pre-filters.

And just in case you didn't know, never blow air into your CF, always pull air through it.

MY buddy was bitching because his CF didn't last that long. "Yeah dumbass, your blowing air into the filter, and therefore have packed it full of dust and closed all the pores in the carbon.

good luck.
