alright im tired of paying for herb.... I'm thinking i want to start growing! but i'm a broke college student. i have a couple tomato plants i grow. but dont have experience growing cannabis i want to grow indoors so i want to know how much it will cost me to get set up and to keep growing i'm not wanting to grow to much at first till i would get more experienced

im at over a 1,000 but im growing more plants and with good equipment and hydro.you could grow in a small pot and use a cfl light and start the 12/12 light process off from the get go as to not make your plants huge if space is a problem.get good soil and a small pot (bout 3 gallon) and grow in soil is the cheapest route but the more light the better so multiple cfls are your best bet.

you can start off as small and cheap or as large and pricey as you really want.. but here's a small list of some minimum things that you'd need to start a simply one plant grow..
several of the largest actual wattage cfl bulbs in the 6500k range for vegging and several of the same wattage in the 2700k range for flowering.. bigger cfl bulbs can run around 5 -10$ per i'd say just for an estimate.. say you get ten of them, that would take you to around $100 give or take just for lights..
or you could drop some more $$$ and get a decent hid setup from a place like htgsupply and get say a 250 watt setup for about $250 everything included.. http://www.htgsupply.com/Category-GrowBright-Grow-Light-Systems.asp..
than you'd need some soil and pots or containers.. i can pick up a big bag of fox farms ocean forest for around $15 or so from a local hydro store..
nutrients can also run as cheap or as expensive as you'd like, but i'd say about $50 or so for a pretty complete line of nutes like the fox farms trio of big bloom, tiger bloom and grow big that will last you several grows atleast..
lastly you'll need some seeds or clones... if you want to save money, you could always use seeds that you pulled out of some bud that you bought, or you can spend some money and get some better genetics and therefore pretty much a better end product for as lil or as much as you'd like to spend once again... sannies seeds has some really nice stuff that you can pick up for around $50 or so for ten seeds, or you can check out the attitude as they have tons of breeders who's prices spread the complete range from say $20 or so for ten beans all the way up to say $600 or so for ted seeds.. expensive is not always better when it comes to seeds, so it really pays to do some homework when it comes to what seeds you buy and where you buy them at..
opps, i almost forgot a small oscilating fan for air circulation.. i'm sure you can get a decent one for $10 / $20 or so.. there are tons of other things that you could buy as well like a ph meter, ppm meter, ph up and down, lots of different nutes, bigger better lights, carbon filter for smell, etc... but what i listed is basically the minimal that you'd need to start a small grow.. once you have that, you can always buy more as you go along and figure out what you're missing and what will make your grow better as you learn and read..

Outtake fan = 20-30
Intake = passive = free
Pots= sprite 2l= free
Soil= at least 10
Circulating fan= 6 @ walmart
Nutes= 20 (all in one small bottle botanicare is gud to start with grow and bloom 20 ea)
Smoke and be creative as far as reflectors and space
If u don't have a space add at lest 50 more to build u a small cabinet
Timer= 10
So yea 100 dollars should be enough jus to see if u want to do more. Trust me smokin may not be addictive but growing is one hell of a drug...

A couple of cfls will grow pot, but if you're looking to provide yourself with a steady supply so you never have to buy weed again then HPS is the way to go. You can get a 250w for $90, it's a good investment if you plan on keeping this as a hobby. I smoke a lot of weed, so I need a 400w to supply myself. It's nice not having to pay for it, and I have extra to give to friends.

Hang a cfl from a closet and for ur veg and get another area for flower being modest I would say 300 to 400 wit a tent light fans timer. I started wit a 90w led and then bought a 250 off of craigslist for 100 and it came wit outtakes. I always see cheap stuff on craigslist. Be careful u don't get jipped. Spent 160 on aircooled hood and 600w ballast and ballast ended up catching on fire but my homie from cali happened to be at my crib of all times. A true act of God. Get electronic ballast. My hydro store in ga offers a complete brand new 600w light system for around 150-175 wit warranties. Bout to pick up a new ballast soon
